i was wanting to put a s/c on my stock lt1 it has just at 100K on it. Would that by a reasonable thing to do or should i build up the motor first? whats the max amount of boost i should run on it?

I am doing it running 6 with 30k miles. I don't recomend it, especially with 100k miles. In my past experiences, stock motors with high mileage and S/Cs dont go together well. I have a nice little savings account setup for when my motor goes, because it will go. I would strongly recommend doing some motor work before putting on a supercharger. If you do decide to do it anyway, as camtom said, 5-6 and 6 will be pushing it. Also, getting a boost retard system is a must. It wil save your motor. And then, make sure it is properly tuned.

I would jsut get a wet kit, you can make more power...and only put stress on the engine when you want to.

if i had it to redo over i would get a wet kit too i think. ls1 and lt1s arent supposed to push 8-9 pounds of boost on the stock internals (this was in the procharger book, so im just quoting them). and with 100k miles i would risk the chance of even a 5 psi blower. just hook up like a 125 or 150 shot (maybe 200) of wet and see how that goes, or you could save up for a forged 383 kit and then get a s/c later ;)

Actully.. as long as the motor is in a good shape and it checks out (compression test and such),,, a high milage motor can be better because the ring gap will be worn down

Put a basic 355 Kit ( or whatever you like) , so you have Forged Internals and then youre ready to go.

I stuck my Procharger on running 5 lbs with the engine having 120 k and it is still running awesome at 130 k. The only thing the car is really used for is racing.

How did this turn out? Did you get a S/C, Nitrous...or new motor? :)
