Well I am planning a blower build and I saw a build up were they used a 350 gem I block and 350 vortex heads out a truck. Well first would they work I have a set of 350 heads from a police cruder center bolt and it would be cool seeing as I need to get weight of the front end and the heads are aluminum. Also I saw where they use 305 heads on 350 so if you are wondering were I got the idea.:usa:

The vortec heads are small runner heads and would work good to make a ton of torque with a proportionally small cam. It just won't make gobs of top end horsepower. I am not sure what aluminum heads you are taking about - LT1 heads???? They won't work.

you can use Lt1 heads on that engine, they require some welding but they can be worked and it would be the least expensive way to have alum.heads 200.00 used heads,100.00 in welding, then what ever portwork you want then the $$$ go up

better idea than the vortec heads

LT1 and Vortecs have the exact same port shape....so other than being lighter the LT1's aren't an advantage.

true, gotta love alum. you can add more comp.and the manifold selection is better

U were right the heads arent aluninum my bad they are truck heads got the number wrong they are 350 heads still vortec but they would work right? So i need replacement heads though would the heads i have work? according to the casting number they were used both in 350 and 400 sbc.I would be droping the motor in a 82 trans am.

you will need to drill steam holes in the heads for the 400 block

How is the manifold selection better? There is really only one intake available for the LT1.

i should have been more specific, virtually any SB intake can fit an Lt1 with few mods(center 2 bolt holes modded for heads) whereas the vortecs have (2 maybe 3 different designs) yeah you can get the conventional bolt pattern drilled into the vortec heads like the scoggin dickey machines but you have to use thick intake gaskets to get close to proper geometry since the vortecs have a raised intake port design similar to the Lt4 head.
i am in the process of doing the victor jr intake on my Lt1,weld-in bungs, larger fuel rails etc.

I thought you couldn't use lt1 heads on a gen 1 sbc because of the way the bolt holes are drilled, aint they angeled or something like that, but if they can be modified to fit would they flow better than gen 1 sbc heads with 2.02/1.60 valves I am also doing a gen 1 build up for my project car, tryin to get the most hp possible

The head bolt holes are in the same place, it is the steam/coolant holes that are all off. Also there's no coolant crossovers in LT1 heads..you can run the LT1 crossover pipe across the back, however you still have the problem of what to do with the lack of a front crossover.

And before you say the LT1 doesn't have a front crossover, remember that it is reverse cooled (heads first, then block), so the way coolant flows through the motor is a lot different.
