View Full Version : Changing injectors, what do I need to change in the PCM?

I have to replace the injectors on my car. I am going to go ahead and get the recommended 42#, rather than the 36# that the salesman told me to purchase for my STS turbo.
I already own a copy of LT1Edit which is married to my car, so I would like to use it for this change. The car was professionally tuned using my software and ran well at the time. I have the stock and last saved LT1Edit files that the tuner used. I have found (in LT1Edit) where I tell the computer that the injector value has changed. What else do I need to change, such as WOT values?
The car will eventually be tuned on the dyno, but that is not an option at this time. I also have an Innovate LM-1 kit for wideband O2 readings and datalogging.
I will do track tuning at IRP if I can get the car running in time.
I am very comfortable with computers, applications, and I am getting comfortable with the functions discussed in the PCM tuning guides.
Any help would be appreciated.

The variable that will need to be changed is the Injector Constant, aka Injector size, but ideally you'd use some dyno and road tuning to get the exact value down.

Excellent. I noticed that the value he used was not exactly 36, but slightly higher.
Road tuning is planned immediately upon getting it running. Dyno tuning is planned next year, or perhaps this winter if situations (weather, funding, time, etc.) allow.
The person (tech expert at a site sponsor) where I purchased the injectors told me that I would have to update the WOT value(s). Is this not correct?

You'll probably want to re-tune the Power Enrichment table once you get the Injector Constant down right under closed loop conditions.

I know this has nothing to do with what your asking, but koolaid where do you plan on going for your dyno tune?

I would like to go to see Bob at EPP. He does not appear to sponsor this site (not sure why not), but I have had many conversations with him via forums, and he is quite knowledgeable. He is located near Fort Wayne. I can send you his url if you wish.
My original tune was at a tuner in Noblesville. However, he mostly does that other American brand of musclecars (the name escapes me  ) and he had a Dynojet tuner.

He used to sponsor us, he let it lapse a couple months ago and never renewed. :(

Thanks Chris. I understand closed loop, and I found the Power Enrichment tables. Looks like there is one for temp deltas and one for RPM values.
Appreciate the info.

Hmmmm, I may ask him about it when I talk to him next. :dontknow:
Not that I have any pull, but it is certainly too bad that he left.

Quick question on this topic, I have a STS as well and going to have it tuned in, but first I want to install a 52mm Throtle Body and put 42lb injectors. Will this be a problem once installed to ride the car to the tuner? Will the car have issue's running?

Thanks

It won't run with 42lb injectors and the stock program.
