Could just be a poorly put together turbo system...
Not STS, but whoever set the package up on his car.
Lag is the major reason my FI motor will run an F-head for my pressure

The STS systems have proven to do really well, and increased lag really doesn't make sense when you think of how long it would take to pressurize a 5 foot pipe. Try covering up one end of a straw and blowing in it....then try cutting it in ahlf and do the same thing, can you tell the difference? Also, the bog makes no sense either...how could that be the turbos fault? Sounds like a horrible tune, or a poorly put together system.

STS provides the tune when you buy the system .. maybe that is a problem

They never offered to tune my car, must be a new thing.

There's no major difference between the STS's and any other turbo kit that I've seen other than turbo placement, which really doesn't make that big of a difference.
There's somethine else not right

i have ridden in a few sts cars not really impressed myself however in defense of sts they create a reliable system that the avg.person can install and not do major damage to the motor due to low boost.
guys like us need more power than a basic sts kit,my friends have devised their own rear system and let me tell you they get down 3 Ls1s all run low 11s with ease here in the desert......
to sum it all up sts designed their first kits for the guy/gal that wanted more power, now they are adding better options due to popularity..
tunning issues could be a factor, good fuel delivery,is it intercooled?

I don't understand how a rear-mount turbo works. How does the boost get from the back of your car to the front?

exhaust pipe feeds turbo, which feeds boost up a intake pipe going back up to the front of the car.

All an STS kit needs to make some sick power is a larger turbo and better supporting mods...
I have a buddy in NE that built a twin STS kit capable of 1k rwhp easy

Problem fixed .. my laughter was all that was needed to get him under his car-- part of the air intake tube collapsed under accelleration .. now that his car isnt starving for air .. its a low 11 sec car .. im trying to talk him into making the run to BG this coming week

The intake tube (called the charge tube) is the weak point in the system. Make sure that he welds it together when he finishes. When mine was assembled, the charge tube leaked like a sieve. After welding, a huge improvement. I am surprised that his boost gauge did not indicate a lack of boost. :dontknow:
An intercooler is available, but I don't care for the look of it. It makes the fbody look like it has a huge gaping mouth, and totally hoses the look of the Firebird. Not much you can do with a Camaro, they just look how they look. (Just joshing!!!)
The charge tube cools the air slightly, due to its length. But not how a large fmic will let you run 15-20 pounds of boost.
The base kit is adequate, IMHO. I got the larger turbo and the electronic boost controller. It rocks, although the placement of the air filter is not ideal for those who have to drive their cars everyday.
