I found a good deal on one, I know the gear ratios are different...but is this good or bad in a drag racing application? What are some other things I should know before considering it?

I think there's only one 93 T56..the ratios changed for 94. Might be a few of the 94 trannies in late 93s though.
The gear ratios are closer together and lower. It would keep the engine in the power band better and would be better off the line.
I don't think you can go wrong. The only thing I'm not sure about is I think they are not quite as strong as the later models.

So, what would me rear 3:42 gears roughly translate to in a 93 tranney?
Also, why are they weaker, and what can I do to make them as strong as the later models?

Like a 3.73....93's had 3.23 even on the M6 cars.

So, it's like adding gear to the rear of the car...but safer because you don't have weaker gears. So, 3.73 gears in the rear with a 93 T56 would be like having 4.10s with out the nasty side effects?

Yeah but not safer because the 93 transmission is weaker. I think it was only rated at 400ft-lbs whereas the 94+ is 450.

There's also stock T56's running over 1000rwhp, so I think the weaker tranny can handle a bit over rated :)

I'm on the phone with a guy from T56rebuilds.com now, he says he thinks it would be a down grade in relibability and performance...I think this is just one of the owners employees, he doesn't seem to know a lot about them.

The 1994+ models of f-body cars with the 6 speed incorperated a taller 1st gear to make the skipshift possible. In 93 there where 2 kinds the standard and the G92 transmission the G92 had a taller 1st gear then the standard but not as tall as in 94 but a shorter 3rd gear.
