how did you get your pinion seal in the diff, or do you mean you can't get it out of the axle housing?

i used a large socket on the inside of the rear end, lined up a bar beind that, and kicked it, kinda like this, >---- and kick, >(the socket)

well the seal is leaking pretty badly, my TQ arm is soaked and my piping is wet.

im tring to pry the seal out of the diff, but theres no space to get a screwdriver or anything in between the ceramic part of the seal and the diff housing.

ok, for one, stop saying you can't get the seal out of the diff, because its not in the diff, never was, the diff is the rotating assembly that the ring gear is attached to, the pinion seal is pressed into the "axle housing"

and two, did you try what i said, try punching it out from the inside, find something that will fit. are you just trying to change the seal and only the seal? thats going to be a little more difficult, i changed mine with the gear swap

yea im changing only the seal. the chilton book says pry it out with a screwdriver but i dont think thats the case here. i didnt try punching it out from the inside.

probably gonna sound like a stupid question, but just to make sure, you have taken the yoke off already, right?

if so, try getting a chisel or a screwdriver you don't care about, grind it down to a very fine edge, and try using a hammer to tap all the way around the seal, working little bits at a time

yea everything is off, DS, yoke, pinion nut,

well if i try doing that, if i chip off some of the housing around the seal it wont hurt any? its just a precaution because i dont want that to turn into another leak.

the seal slides into the housing, a little chip shouldnt hurt anything, i think the seal would bend or something before you chip the housing

start with small taps first, dont get a chisel and a hammer and go balls out on it

ok i replaced it

but

its still leaking from where the pinion nut and washer are on the companion flange(yoke). i put RTV sealant around the base of the flange before putting the washer and nut on, and it still leaked

this rear end hates me for some reason...
