Okay guys lets say you had a CAR and where gonna twin charge (using both a supercharger and a turbocharger) it, what kind of steup would you run and why?
I was thinking a Decent size turbo that makes GREAT top end and lacks the bottom end and then a Roots style blower to compensate for all the turbo lag.

OR

A centrifugal Supercharger placed first on the intake tract and a big turbo that takes a while to spool placed aft on the intake tract. In theory (at least in my mind) when you punched the gas you would experience almost no lage because the supercharger would boost right away and being first on the intake tract it would then cause the turbo to spool intstantly or quicker than it normally would.

I have no experience with twin charging I was just thinking about it today at work and got a little curious.

Why not?

expensive, complicated, not ideal. spray it out of the hole some if lag is such a big issue.

but why? to take up for the lag, i've actually seen this done on a tiburnon

one of the weridest setups ive ever seen. had a y-pipe coming off the TB and one way went to the supercharger(i think it was a vortec) and the other way went to a huge turbo, and it had some kind of clutch on the SC that when hitting a certain RPM it disengaged allowing the turo to take over

it was an overly elaborate system that could have achived the same results with a TT setup, but i think the guy was going for the one-of-a-kind thing

If you properly size your single or twin turbo and pair it (them) with the right stall, you're not going to get any turbo lag (or slow spool times) on a V8. Pretty much the same thing goes for a blower with the right pulley and stall.

IMO, a turbo/blower setup just isnt needed and it's hard to justify the cost, additional fabrication, weight, and increased AITs generated. If you want to do it for a cool factor, go ahead, but there will still be a lot of people who look at it and wonder why you bothered.
