How hard is it to install a new radio? Looking at a couple of different new head units, narrowed down to between an eclipse and a pioneer. Mine still has the stock setup. How do you get the dash apart? Any how to's around with pic's, I'm short on patience and tend to break things.

An adapter wiring harness makes a huge difference. I think a basic replacement H/U install is pretty easy. I got into do stereo stuff before I ever spun a wrench years ago. I gave it up in favor of HP but in general with a good harness and instructions its not hard.

Looking at Crutchfield as they supply free install kits and wire harnesses but trying to figure how to get the dash apart and the old radio out. I didn't see any screws to take the plastic off around the radio. Circuit city gives you a free install around the same price for the head unit but charges like $60 for the install kit and another $60 plus parts to hook the sub up.

The plastic trim just pulls off. The screws for the radio are behind the trim piece.

Crutchfield gives you great instructions and everything you need to replace the headunit. If you're a newbie and a little reluctant to do it on your own, I'd suggest going thru them. It might cost a tad more, but they do give you quite a bit of service.

I agree, it's not hard at all, and Crutchfield is a good way to go.

I don't think so, the T/A trim piece pops off but I'm pretty sure there are screws holding the trim on in the Camaros. Don't quote me on this, but I believe you have to take off the dash piece underneath the steering wheel to get to the bolts on the left side of the trim piece and then open the glove box to get to the other screws. Then the middle piece around the stereo just pops out. It's not bad at all, should only take you about 15-20 minutes to get the radio out once you figure out where all the bolts are.

I was looking to spend about $200 for the head unit, I like the pioneer's display and my wife has one in her Jeep but my step son says eclipse will give me better sound. I bought a used sub with custom box that goes in the drivers side compartment in the back off ebay. It has an MTX8000 sub in it and should be arriving any day. Also need some suggestion's on which amp to get. Looking at those brackets from subthump that mount it on the back. Also will I need a capacitors for just one sub? If so any idea's?
