Next gen 6 speed manual trans will use a panetary gearbox...basically an A6's guts but with a clutch.
Will simplify vehicle packaging and save some costs.

wow that park feature is pretty weird, do u think you can put it in park while the engine is still running without it stalling?? that would be kinda sweet

i have a feeling you would have to hold the clutch in, unless they have some kind of input shaft disable when in park

I thought that in neutral or park auto's just disengaged the rest of the tranny from the input shaft...
I don't imagine it'd be any different.

In an automatic, park actually locks the rear most sungear in place, therefore locking the output shaft.

now that you mention it, i remember now.
when in N or P the input still turns but the clutch packs are disengaged, and in park there is a little arm that pushes into a gear on the output to stop it from moving entirely

Correct. Basically it has a gear that the arm locks into. Hence why the car will roll a little bit, b/c the slack has to be taken up for the car to actually lock in place.
