View Full Version : What should the focus of this site be?

I am leaning toward making Burnoutbox.com an all-domestic site. No imports...
So we would welcome:
Fbody cars
Mustangs
Corvettes
Turbo Buicks
Dodge stuff
Classic muscle
even domestic FWDers like GTPs, etc.

To be honest, I don't see why we couldn't keep it open to the import guys too. We'll just have to keep watch and make sure we don't let any pot-stirring idiots post.
All-domestic's a good idea too

I think the concern is dilluting the focus too much vs. not recruiting a large enough audience.

I think that as long as the topics center around drag racing, the focus will be fine. I think the key thing is to a successful forum is squashing the sarcasm from the start. We're all human and enjoy a good laugh but, the purpose of a forum is to be able to share information. The people that you want to attract don't want to read through 10 posts of people talking smack to each other to get to the point. Maybe start it off with a FWD, and RWD section as most of the tech, and tips aren't related to each other. Best of luck, with the new forums. Hope it takes off. I know I could use a few tips!

Maybe we need a dedicated Smack forum?

I guess I'd say open it up to all drag racers, although I'm not much into the imports and probably wouldn't read those related topics very often.
I've been primarily hanging out at vette based sites, but we also have folks with other car makes that post too and we get along very well. There's some good natured smack talking amongst some of the members, but that just makes it more fun as long as no one goes overboard.

id say leave it open because not all imports have huge wings and fart cans bigger than my bedroom. some are seriously fast cars and they could bring something good and different to the board. plus it might give you guys someone to pick on if theres every a meet at a track or somethin

How about a time slip section? Maybe areas that are like 14 sec, 13 sec, 12 sec, 11 sec and you can only get to them if you run that time.
Might be a good idea to help fellow members out (car wise) getting to the next level.

Great idea! but maybe letting folks in the time just faster than them plus their time instead of locking people out all the faster times

Yea, I would say if you run an 11 you can get into the 11, 12, 13, 14 but not the 10 second time areas. Someone running faster than you can most likely help you with tips and stuff.

You know, I like that, but how are you going to police it? And what are we going to give an 11 sec. member that he would actually care about that nobody else can access? Just a secret 11 sec. club forum?

Its a great concept, just needs to be worked through a bit more. If there was something substantive we could offer it could be a great marketing point to the site.

Agreed. Gotta get the traffic here first before its worth the $ to a sponsor. Once we have a couple hundred members here I'll work on getting us some sponsors. That's why it's key to get the word out about this site if its to survive.

I think the site should remain open to everyone. I respect anyone who enjoys going fast in a straight line and wants to be faster - or wants to help others figure things out. Just because I race my Camaro does not mean that I don't want to fix up my two Hondas.
I have only met a few real jerks at the track... both import and domestic owners. I have read a lot of crap from stupid people on the Internet who just enjoy stirring the pot and never have anything of value to say to anyone else. I think if this site can avoid pissing contests between car makes or individuals, this would become my favorite forum. First step to this would be good Moderators. So long as we have one common goal (getting faster) it does not matter if you have a 16 second car. You may have a 7 second beast, but if you?re a jerk I cannot respect you.
I like the idea of a secret community for those that earn it... but it can't be so restrictive that it only contains a member or two. Perhaps you (Chris) can decide based on post content and contributions to the site, which can be members.
As long as we remember that most of us did not buy our car from the factory as an 11, 10 or 9-second freak and we must get the knowledge from somewhere. I certainly did not make it into the 11's by reading only other 14 second owners tips on K&N filters and Borla exhaust... But it was a start.

How about custom titles? 13 second member, 12 second member, ect.
I do think that the site should be open to all who want to talk, learn dragracing
How about a product review site (good and bad)?

with the forum name www.burnoutbox.com it would suggest that we all at least have drag racing in common. I would stay stick to that for now... granted if we let imports in here it could lead the form totaly astray.. cause i for one, dont know jack about juicing up a honda or launching a FWD car or anything like that. We would need a balanced mix is what i guess im hitting at, but if this place turns into honda central how will you curb it? I agree that as long as the goal is to get down the track faster I dont really care what they use as long as it is a car of some sort (or even truck) No single car brand is only owned by idiots.. we just need to find the cool people from each segment to come and shoot the bull here. I also agree with cracking down on smack talkers from the get go. I would like to see this be an unbiased/ mature type of site where we can share info... not turn into a flame fest or www.indycarz.com ;) LOL

I agree with Jeremy....Lets stay with the domestics for now until there is a need for an import section/s....
The problem with sites like www.indycarz.com is the drama....It seems no one can get along....We don't need that here....

All good ideas. In time, we will do these things. One thing I learned last year was if you make too many forums, etc. too early it dillutes the posts so much it looks like a ghost town. Probably already have too many forums.

How about just not allowing any FWD imports? Nah, just kidding. Seriously though. There are some pretty quick imports out there. For example here is a video of the quickest stock bottom end M20 powered BMW in the U.S. http://bimmerjim.com/images/Videos/jim1188.wmv Not too shabby I don't think. Especially with NO suspension mods. Unless you want to count the "heated" springs. He is obviously running slicks though. Having a separate section for the smack talking is a GREAT idea. I have seen way too many websites run into the ground cuz of everyone talking smack. It's a waste of everyone's time to have to sit and read through any of the crap just to get to a post that has anything that is worth reading. What about a truck section, or are there really not enough people racing trucks here that would necessitate a whole section for that?

I agree that you can have TOO many forums. Best to just play it by ear and develop things as they are really needed.. :thumbup
