Thinking of a switch, SLP has the 3:42's on sale now. I have factory 16" tires and want to do some limited drag racing but worried how much the 3:73's will affect my normal driving and gas mileage. I drive about 800 miles a month. Car has 56K original miles. Also how would I change the speedo the effect the gear change. I have factory 3:23's now. My coworker has an 06 Mustang and went from 3:23's to 4:10's and he says it really woke his car up, but he has a 5 speed auto. I want to make sure I can beat him. Other than the gears he has just a CAI also.

the change from 23 to 42 isnt much, and not really worth it, if your gonna spend the money go to the 73. you will notice that your in the higher rpm range to drive down the street which means more noise (if cops are a problem), and more fuel usage

to fix the speedo, you just need the computer tuned, check the sponsers

your friend doesn't have an A5 as they don't make that, at least not that im aware of, so if its an auto its A4, if its 5-speed its M5, unless ford came out with an A5

if you really want to beat him get the 73s, if you don't beat him it should be close, but if you really want the win, get some nitrous

Thought the 3:42's would be better all around and sometimes I smoke the tires with the 3:23's thought maybe the 3:73's would result in no traction. I am going to get some drag radials for when I go to the track, I've had good luck with BFG's in the past.

i love my 3.42s, but they are not that much of a bump up, if you really want to wake the car up, get a stall

it really depends on what you want to do with the car, if you want sort of an all around performer (street/strip, being that it sees more street time) the 3.42 would be better, but if you looking for more racing time out of the car 3.73s would be what you want

ive gone from 2.73s to 3.23s to 3.42s, i have to say i noticed more of a change from the 2.73 to the 3.23, and when i went to 3.42s the only thing i noticed was that when i took my foot off the gas, the car decelled faster, didn't even run a faster ET, althought i did spin a bit more off the line

Just so you know the 05 GT does come with a 5 speed automatic or a 5 speed manual.

i vote 3.73's, they get you up in your powerband quicker and stays there longer, keeps you in it better when it shifts too
