I'm in the process of installing a new cam, 1.6 roller rockers, ported and polished heads, upgrading to a vented opti, double roller timing chain, electric water pump, etc. (here's a link to a thread that lists head and cam stats http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3724).

My question is I want the engine to fire up pretty quickly so I can break-in my cam properly. Should I send in my PCM to a mail order tuner (something like pcmforless) or will it fire up fine without it? I would think that I would need to get it dyno tuned so I don't want to do both?

Any advice is appreciated.

it should fire up w/o any tweaking of the pc. it won't drive well or have an easy time idling.

It will start and idle OK on the stock tune and you might be able to put a few miles on it but it wont be the best.

So I posted this thread in the wrong forum to start, and my searching prior to creating the thread was in the wrong forum as well. Now that I'm searching in the right forum I'm finding a lot of positive comments about pcmforless. Maybe I could use pcmforless instead of dyno tuning. I could always dyno tune some time down the road if I want to eek out some more power, but for now I just want to run good with the parts that I've installed.

PCM4Less, MadZ28, and some others out there are good tuners for mailorder.
