The last time I went to the track, I destroyed my 2nd gear. Teeth missing and everything.
So I decided to rebuild the 6 speed with some new parts. New 1-2 and 3-4 syncros, new 2nd gear and a steel 3-4 shift fork.
We put it all back together and the two bolts that bolts through the top of the 6 speed were giving us trouble. It is kind of difficult to line them up just right but after some tinkering around with it Saturday, we got it.
I spun the input shaft while my buddy shifted through the gears and watched the output shaft. Everything seemed to be in order.
We put the tranny back in yesterday, filled it up with fluid and started it up. I was on jack stands so I put it in first and let off the clutch. Tires started spining. Went ahead and went through 2nd, 3rd and 4th and so far so good. I braked up, shifted into reverse and reverse works too!
I was really surprised at how smooth the transmission shifts now versus before. Even reverse is smooth!
Haven't put Rally on the ground yet for a street test, I need to get another crank bolt first. We stole the ARP one out of it for someone else's car.
Just thought I would share. :D
That was the first manual tranny I have torn into and put back together.
