Can you give us some details about your car? Might help to know what the purpose is before we make a recommendation.

I tihnk B&M makes them in stages..or maybe it is transgo..either way ONE of those companies does them in stages. Select the stage that best suits you!

Doing a shift kit while in the car is not easy. Especially if you never attempted one before.

how much do you think a local mechanic who does side jobs will charge me?

No clue. Figure a couple of hours of labor at most. :D

I use the TransGo and have been extremely pleased with it. It really speeds up the shifts and stops slippage, and can be set in 3 different firmnesses.

I also say the trans go kit is very high quailty. the firmness has to do with the # of washers in the 1-2 acumilator. the Censes on ISSF say that zero, and 1 washers is the way to go. The kit # is ....HD2. I would personally frown apoun the B&M kit, but thats just me. IIRC, it locks acumilation out, which makes the shifts TOO firm at lower throttles, which is hard on parts. I know ProBuilt Automatics sells a "modified" trans-go kit, that addresses a few 4L60E problems. Like increasing feed hole sizes, and some other stuff. and includes instructions on how to address these issues. They specialize in the 4L60 line, Plus, Probuilt has an outstanding record with 4L60e's in FAST cars.

But hey, I'm just some newbie. ;)

I love probuilt's kits the most. I have done a bunch of his kits for people's transmissions (including my own) and I have been impressed with the quality. Of course it is not cheap, but definitely worth it.

It's only about $100, which is the same as a none modified HD2 kit. right? but quite a bit more than the "baby" or "jr" $30 shift kit.

But yea, not exactly cheap.
