So I own this stock 2001 WS6 automatic (I know I’m an idiot for buying an automatic ws6 in the first place). I recently had the pistons and rings replaced under an extended warranty for oil consumption and knock issues. I’ve put about 1000 miles on the car since I’ve gotten it back. Before I brought the car it use to down shift aggressively. Now if I go WOT doing about 20 mph it won’t down shift to first. It’ll just ride second gear all the way…
How do I get it back the way it was?
Does the computer need to relearn itself? If so how long?
Do I need to go back to the dealer to see if they reflashed the PCM with some crappy strategy?
Any help would be great before I get my but handed to me by a NA 6 cylinder off a rolling start.

How many miles are on it? Fluid level good and color good and red? Any SES light?
I can't see why the dealer would be doing anything to the pcm for just replacing pistons and rings.

ok, 1st nothing wrong with an auto, stall the bitch
2nd, ill have to double check using my car, but im pretty sure doing 20, your still in 1st and thats why its not downshifting
3rd, if it is in fact in 2nd gear, check the fuild level, color, smell
4th, if anything was done to the pcm, its probably going through a re-learn cycle in which case your not going to get its full potential
oh and this happened to my buddy, make sure the floor mat isnt under the gas pedal, you may floor it, but its not WOT

Hey Guys,
62000 miles.
SES light... Yes, just turned on today. It’s related to SAIR though. I think it was P410.
I had the trans serviced with a complete flush and filter change at 55000. After the service the trans still shifted aggressively. I checked the fluid level and color when I first got it back from the dealer, but I'll check it again. When I did check it, the fluid was full, red and didn't smell like the trans was burning up...
Pull away from a light slowly, wait till it shifts it second and then nail it a few seconds later. My car used to downshift and take off. Now it just pulls slowly away. Same thing around 65. When I used to nail it would sift into second and pull had, now the pig just stays in third. If I manually shift into first or second at this time it does down shift and pull hard. Therefore that leads me to believe the trans has no problem doing it, but it just isn't being told to by the PCM...
It’s been 1000 miles. How long do you think it would take to relearn?
Thanks for the input...

relearn should only take 500
have you recently put in a K&N type filter, if so the oil can get on the MAF sensor and the trans will act funny
the SES code wont cause the car to drive any different, not for an AIR code anyways
this just started after the dealer did work? id go back bitching

Any updates on the car and if you got the problem solved and what was it?
I had the samething happen to my Camaro, so i know exactly what you are going through and i miss those kick ass shifts from my car. I spent over 600 hundred dollars at the dealer figuring out what the other auto place did wrong and never did figure it out. And i know now that i should have gone back to the exact same auto place to take care of the problem they cause in the first place and not go to the dealer have the look for the problem cause by another mechanic.
I did talk to gm dealership tranny specialist and he said, my camaros computer was probably reset to normal factory shift/downshifts and the previous way it shifted was by way of mod by previous owner.
So in my case i think my computer was moded, and im interested to read what you found out about your car. i have a 98 camaro z28 and my car used to downshift fast and hard before and used to go really quick when i went wot. So belive me i know what you are going through, at time i even hated my car; i missed those shifts so much the car seemed slower. But that also when i started modding to get the power feel back and it has helped ease my pain greatly. So if you can give us an update that would be cool.
