How hard would it be to make room for a carb and filter in a 95 Z? Im thinking about swapping motors but i dont know if it would be too much of a pain or not. :dontknow:

Call BMR and ask. They make the k-member for the swap so i assume they will see how far the motor sits whether its stock or if it gets moved up a little. But even so it will be a bitch because you will have to do soem cutting to get the distributor to fit in there.

You'll also need a new radiator since the LT1 is reverse flow only. You'll have to figure out a new accessories/water pump scenario too.

I'd get rid of the LT1's weakness (opti) before its relative strenght (intake).

Or are you talking about putting a gen-1 small block Chevy in it?

If you were thinking about putting a GEN 1 sbc in a 4th gen car you probobly wouldnt need to cut the cowl area if you ran a MSD crab cap style distributor. Definitely will need to replace the radiator and change the front dress on the engine. Your factory brackets will not be a bolt up, and you will probobly need to then change your PS pump, alt and ac compressor to what ever brackets you decide to use (factory or aftermarket). I think a long water pump would clear the radiator (remember that thing is on some hellasious angle) so this might make your bracket selection easier especially since all the accessories need to be mounted in front of the engine so you can clear the strut towers.

Then there's the electrical stuff which i'm not to sure about If your car is an auto you may want to think about going to a older transmission with a mechanical kick down I dont think the 4l60 E will be to happy.:dontknow:

Hopefully someone with more electrical expertise will step in

what k- member did you use and how did you make room for the carb and distributor. Oh and also did you pull the motor from the bottom or the top?

We used the the stock K-member, but BMR makes one with the small block Chevy mounts.

We removed a section of the cowl with a cut off wheel. There was approximately 4" of room.

We removed and installed the motor from the top.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us.

we did this with a 94 convertible. dropped a 350 in with a low pro weiland blower. it fit but you have to cut part of the exterior dash piece out like in his pictures. its a little bit of fun and you need certain headers that will fit on both the old school block and clear in the car. its not that hard tho, it can be done.
