View Full Version : Question head suggestions?
hey guys im just curious to see what heads i should buy for my camaro with my set up for a street car..maybe u guys have a simular set up like mine and could help me out thanks..
my setup is
gm performance hot cam kit with 1.6 roller rockers, b&m 2500 stall, longtubes with true dual exhaust, cai, msd opti, pcmforless tune stock and stock gearing for now...i was leaning twards advance induction heads but lemme no what u guys thing...thanks
97 SS LT1 02-23-2010, 03:40 PM i have heard good and bad on advance induction...a guy around here bought a set and had to have them sent back twice b/c they were not right. that is the only dealings with them i have had. i took mine to a machine shop...450.00 got me a full p&p valve job and milling them down!!
hmmm thats something to take into consideration....what exactly wasnt right with them?
1fast84 02-23-2010, 04:22 PM I'd say with that setup you wouldn't even need them port and polished. Take them to machine shop get them milled flat with a 3 angle valve job and some beehive valve springs and you'll be set. Valve springs and retainers will run you around $225 and that head work shouldn't be more than $125
awizeking 02-23-2010, 04:57 PM in my experiance with A.I, it was actully pretty good. got exactly what i wanted, i think they make really good product just a little too exspensive. i would say get a hold of llyod elliot port work and get your stock casting port and polished with new valves and springs. the hotcam kit springs are poopy!

it was something with the valve seats i think...the shop sent them off to get them fixed and they didn't do it right the first time so they had to send them back again...but this is only one case that i have heard of around here!

i kinda know the guy from AI and he is a dick and he will not give any head or cam specs on what your getting unless he is paid in full and another thing i went to his shop in concord NC unanounced to discuss a head and cam package and he was hiding and wouldnt come out from his shop which was very shady and i was standing in his shop talking to him on my cell phone when he was hiding the guy is a straight up tool bag so on the note go with loyd elliot he is a great guy with great prices and will tell you anything you want to know ..

TRANSAM GT4 02-23-2010, 08:59 PM With that set up I would check around and see if any local machine shops with a good rep. could post your heads (if your on a budget.) Have em flowed as well. Or go le.

But with ported heads, I would def re consider sticking a hot cam in...
Kirby 02-24-2010, 03:50 PM if i was on a budget i would go with a local shop or loyd, if i had a little more money i would go advanced induction, if no budget i would get after market ones ported. you can crack on advance induction all you want but numbers talk and bullshit walks, check the lt1 records and who holds them with what heads. loyd sells a good product for the money but there is better heads out there that will make more power. advance ind. will give you your money back if not %100 satisfied so really you have nothing to lose.

davesLT1 02-24-2010, 03:54 PM Ported stockers from lloyd, and maybe a custom ground cam if the budget allows, that way would be cheaper than buying new heads!!

I don't know about THAT.
There site brags about low 11 sec 355 motors... local guy is going 11.3X on a stock bottom end and LE2s... heck I trap 115 with a full interior and street wheels...
LE > AI IMO.

Kirby 02-24-2010, 04:09 PM please post the records that loyd headed lt1s have. and show you are saying that if someone wanted to trade your le2 for some ai 200's you wouldn't do it?

I have no written stuff for ya, my time slips are at home, but I know a stock bottom end car, with LE2 heads traps 120 area and 11.3X...
And I would never put anything AI on my engine... this is all my opinion of course, don't take it the wrong way.
Kirby 02-24-2010, 04:22 PM it's all in fun show, you are true to le i know that and don't blame ya, you seem very happy with your set up! just wanted the op see to the good side of ai and that they make some power.

Ya I mean, a good product is a good product, I was just not pleased with the customer service from AI. So to the OP, give both porters a call and go with your gut. Both porters perform, up to you.
alright i try em both and see what happens...i no the hot cam is old and out of date but its already in my car and in and i havent really gotton to drive it around that much but what i have noticed is it is a pretty good deal for the price...just outta curiosity y why do alot of people knock the hot cam so much???this is only my first lt1 build b4 but have used the cam in other motors as well so im just wonderin more about it....thanks for all the input guys
