OK long story short I've been trying for over an hour to pull a set of heads off a motor they wont move, yes all the bolts are out:rolleyes:

Ive tried prying, pulling, hitting, with a big hammer and driving a screw driver between the head and block. so far all I've accomplished is bending a screw driver. I pulled on the heads so hard I picked the engine like 6" off the ground

anybody got any tips or special techniques?

I had the same problem last week. I bought a Wonder Bar, which is like 12" pry bar, and pryed that sucker off. Just be careful to not gouge the aluminum. Piece of cake once I used that.

are they moving at all?they only thing that could hold them is the dowels that stick up,I would double check to make Sure all bolts are out and pull up on them as straight as possible.I never had a head stuck on that bad but i also dont do it very much

yea I got like 4 wonder bars but none of um are at the house
time to try the BFH

I think I got them to move like .00001" give or take when I drove the screwdriver under it

mine were stuck on real good. it's the gasket that makes the head almost stick to the block especially after a lot of miles. just do what i said and you'll get them off just fine.

Often times the quick/sudden application of upward force will break free something that's stuck. Quick/sudden as opposed to steady pressure. Try shocking them free.

In the past, I've inserted the wooden handle of a hammer into one of the intake ports then shocked the head in an upward direction.

I wouldn't hit it too hard with a hammer you don't want to break a dowel pin. Do what Jake said with the hammer handle in the intake port or what I suggested if you can get a pry bar

well they came off
I ended up giving them a few taps the the BFH then pulled and pulled and pulled (while wiggling) then it literally flew off nearly hitting me in the face the second one basically fell off in my hands the second time around:craz28:

I think because its real cold out that the head shrunk around the dowel or something

thanks for the input guys

WOW! I sorry that I didn't mention that possibility in my previous response.

It's best to leave one bolt partially installed, loose but not removed, so that the bolt will catch the head and prevent it from doing what yours did. It also prevents the head from falling to the ground/floor too.

I sincerely apologize for not previously including that caution and how to address it before now.

I'm glad to see that you weren't injured though.

I have had a head stuck on so much that i ended up hooking a engine hoist up to each side! It lifted the truck up we were workin on!

The only time I ever had this problem was with a ford ranger 4.0 hooked a hoist up and lifted the front tires off the ground before it came. Never had that problem with my Camaro though
