So I had some major motor problems and I have decided to do a 383 build with the cc306. I'm having my heads p&p and intake worked over too.
My question is will I need to run a better valve spring with rr or can I just replace my stock ones? Also where can I get a tune done in north Texas after I get it all together?
Might want to read the cam sticky at the top of the ltx tech section, it will give you a good idea of what all is involved in a cam swap and what parts to pick.
As for the valve springs, IMO you should upgrade them anytime the cam is changed and even if higher ratio rocker arms are used on the stock ones. Not only do you have to upgrade, but you must make sure you match the springs to the cam and that the cam and rpm range is within the limits of the springs.

You should be able to get a mail order tune from any of the major tuners (www.pcmforless.com (http://www.pcmforless.com) , www.trifectaperformance.com/ (http://www.trifectaperformance.com/) , etc)......they can e-mail you the tune or you can ship your PCM to the tuner and they can load the tune directly into the PCM.
Hell yes......upgrade the springs. You'd want new springs almost any time you swap cams.....but the stock springs will in no way, handle the 306 cam.
And BTW......there are a number of better cams out there than the 306 cam. As a matter of fact, you may want to go with a custom grind cam or even a head/cam package (http://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html) if you want to optimize power/streetability.
Best of luck!!

yes you will want to replace your springs!! i have a 306, i run the beehive (918 i think) and 1.6 RR. i went with solomon for my tune. i also have p&p heads with the valve job and milling. runs great for me!

Thanks! I completely forgot about the cam sticky. I will be calling elliott's Monday to talk to them.
As for the tunes. I'm not much on the computer stuff so Id much rather have someone local set it up for exactly what I'm wanting to do.
