Hesitation, Backfire and Stumbe

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my last problem that I had with my car knocking, which turned out to be loose tc bolts. That noise went away and as far as the other thud noise that I had I believe that it is the tensioner. It seens to be slapping around at random and making a thud noise. Has anyone else experienced this. i plan on removing the belt and seeing if I still get any thud noise tomorrow.

Now for the problem that I cant seem to nail. My car seems to be wanting to stall and is lurching forward when it is in gear. Which leads me to think I have a bad tc or the tc lockup is going bad but im not sure im new to these transmissions. It also hesitates and stumbles upon acceleration and sometimes backfires It will also backfire sometimes upon startup and sometimes takes a little more cranking to get it started. Does anyone have any ideas I was leaning towards something along the lines of an o2 sensor but im not sure. I did have to use a torch on one to get it out of the old exhaust manifold when I put my headers on.

All of these problems are making my head spin

Man! i am having problems with the exact same things! a friend of mine that works as a technician at a dealership here in AZ told me it might be bad fuel pressure, i will be following this thread closely...

good luck man!

Is your car lurching forward that is my biggest concern. It feels like it jerks me forward with the rotation of the motor when I take my foot off of the brake.

is either car backfiring through the intake?

I have to say its probably ignition related. Check spark plug wires for burnt wires. Comment issue when switching to LT"S

I have done wires, optispark and plugs since the headers went in. I have also replaced the coil. I will check the wires just in case. Who knows with new headers there are plenty of wires to burn up. and I dont know if it matters or not but my egr is now gone and blocked off since the headers went in.

Yes man, my car seams like it just wants to go! i have to really put my foot on the break to hold it back (i just like to think its angry and wants to go! haha) i changed my sparks about a month ago, and the only mods i have is a k&n air filter and a slowmaster, im just saying cuz r3d was talking about the lt's.

I hate to see anyone else having this problem but im kinda glad that im not alone. I was talking to a guy I know who builds lt1s, thats all he works on. He said that he will stop over and check it out.

EGR should not cause that. Check your wires.

Did it just start doing this out of no where?

What brand or wires and coil and opti

Taylor wires, summit racing opti, MSD Coil. Considering it had a knock off opti, knock off 8mm wires and what appeared to be the stock coil when I bought it I thought that it would be a step up.

and as far as when it started doing it. I was doing some work to the motor just do freshen it up and give it a few ponies.

New motor, trans mount.
Air Foil
headers
oil pump
gaskets all around (oil pan was leaking)
Descreen the MAF sensor.
Coolant Bypass
Removed silencer tube. Replaced it with a shampoo cap, used silicone to seal it.
Transgo shift kit.
Timing Chain
opti, Wires and coil.
New ac compressor (mine was shot)
Removed the air pump, tube and egr.

This all took place over a 4 month period.

When I put it all back together it happened.

I did move some of my grounds. The ones on the left and right side of the radiator I moved down lower so that I didnt have to see them. But I dont see how that could effect anything, just throwing it out there.

Summit opti is junck right off the bat. I've also read from other members that taylor wires sux on LT1's. double check your wires make sure you didn;t cross them.

As in, you re used em after heating them with a torch?

Did you make your own 02 extensions or buy pre made ones?

The clunking issue and pulling through the brakes would lead me to the trans/converter being as you just did a shift kit. Stock stall?

MYLTWON
02-20-2010, 11:03 PM
Yes I did have to heat it with a torch to remove it from the stock exhaust manifold.

The converter is stock and untouched. It turned out that the other clunk was the the tensioner.

I will check my wires

I was checking under my car checking wires and I saw that the ground on my o2 sensor was not connected even though the o2 sensor was plugged in. Would this cause it to fail without throwing a check engine light?

MYLTWON
02-21-2010, 05:50 PM
Ok I talked to a mechanic and he said the only thing that will happen when the ground is unhooked is that the o2 will heat up differently.

I am pretty sure that it is a fuel pressure problem at this point because now my car is having a hard time starting and when it does start it is rough and then the rpms will spike and then its dead again.
