I am thinking about getting the UMI 3 point, with the tubular brace mounted torque arm.

My questions are.

1. Will I have any clearance issues hooking this up with pacesetter long tubes with the Y pipe.

2. Is it really going to make much a difference with traction using aggressive street tires?

Also, does UMI offer us any kind of discount?

The best thing to do is e-mail them. -------->

I already spent a good amount of time on the phone with him, but I never like to act solely on the word of the manufacture.

From what I've been told, UMI makes a damn fine product. I know many people who are using thier components.

The subframes should clear Pacesetters, and the torque arm will make a world of difference.

My mechanic, tells me because I don't have any wheel hop, that the torque arm will do me no good.

It'll still help kill the wheel spin. LCA's combat wheel hop the most.

How woudl this torque arm even work? It mounts to the car, not the transmission. So, how does it transfer torque from the engine to the rear wheels?

By mounting to the car, I assume you mean it's a crossmember mounted one? It works the same way. By removing it from the tail shaft, you'll be protecting your trans.

But doesn't the transmission torque down onto the torque arm, and transfer weight to the rear?

a torque arm doesn't transfer torque, it prevents it.

It doesn't shift torque down from the tranny, but instead it keeps your rear-end from 'torquing' up during heavy acceleration, which puts more power down for your launch.

sounds like your mech. doesn't know his suspensions that well.

chassis mounted TA's have a bit more roadnoise and vibration than a tranny mount will, though. If you go to the track a lot I'd suggest the chassis-mount. If your car is a street toy I'd probably say get a tranny mount, but get an upgraded, adjustable one either way. UMI's got great examples of both

And I'd suggest LCA's for any car, even a stock one. Then, if you've still got wheel-hop (usually from a larger tire or vehicle lowering, which changes suspension geometry), LCA relocation brackets. UMI would actually be my recommendation for all 3.

The driveshaft transfers tq from the engine to the wheels. The torque arm counteracts the axle's desire to spin with the tires.
