powerdyne supercharger

i have the chance to pick up a powerdyne supercharger for 800 and i have a 383 with lt4 heads and intake but some people told me that the poerdynes were junk what do you think

never knew anyone w/ one on any app. i'm not even sure if powerdyne is even around anymore. i know their setups used 2 b cheaper than other brands higher up on the ladder (vortech, procharger etc.). i remember they used 2 b internally oiled (no outside oil line) & advertised a low boost rating on the blower itself. i considered 1 long ago but decided n/a was less of a headache.

if anyone is selling a supercharger that cheap there is usually a reason.... and not normally a good one. as i stated in the other post, their fins come apart easily (not made of quality steel) throwing metal chunks into your motor. powerdyne also uses an internal belt to spin the gear which those also tend to break. not something i would risk. but its your car.

IMO if you really want to go the FI route, save for a procharger. they are tried and true and stand behind their blowers.

also powerdyne you will have to drill and tap your oil pan for a feed line to the blower (at least with older units anyway). with a procharger it has a self contained oil system. you change it every 6K miles. and are internally gear driven not belt driven.

i was told many years ago that those superchargers aren't the most popular or reliable ...

i bought a 96 impala with a powerdyne and there not worth fooling with save your money and buy a procharger :no:

yea the powerdyne has a tensioner for the belt that you have to adjust yourself and it always comes loose n the supercharge will kick in and out as the belt slips. procharger all the way

first lets get the facts right the powerdyne bd11a head unit is a self contained charger,it had an internal belt so not tapping oilpan.second what ever you do dont get!!!!!
they are vary vary unreliable you will break then internal belt and the bearing will fail sooner than later.ask me how I know.lol
for some reason they work ok for the mustang crowd,but they take a shit on gm cars in a matter of weeks.on the fbody cars they run revirse rotation always thought that had somthing to do with it.
save your money and go with a procharger,vortech,etc worth it in the long run.

I know a guy that has had his since 95 or 96 on his 95Z28. He's had it rebuilt at Powerdyne over the years. He still has it and still makes power with it. I guess it depends on how you take care of your stuff as fas as reliability.

I had mine on a 99z28 for 2 weeks and the belt and bearings went,never even got on it just cruzing!!
sent it back to powerdyne for rebuild and it took then 2 months to get it back.
I got it back from them,and the bearings made more noise than before the rebuild
I took it all off the car and sent it back for a full refund.
went turbo and never looked back.lol

i got a bd-11 powerdyne was gonna put in on a blow threw carb on a 400 sbc. would it be worth trying for a drag car?
