The higher the ratio, the smaller the gear teeth, but their are other factors involved: posi, locker, limited slip, 12 vs 10 bolt, etc.
I'll have to defer to the MODS on this one

I am thinking of doing 373s too i was also wondering if it would be rougher on the tranny and rear end, and also if a 95LT1 came with 323s does that mean it is series carrier 3?

LS1tech has some outstanding info on gear selection, etc., but I believe the A's came w/2.73's and M's came w/3.23
Not up on the LT's as much as I am the LSx's

I think the A4s came with 273s and 323s while M6 cames with 3.42s.

Reason being,if i could get my car into the say 8.70s through the eighth with cai ,headers ,exhaust, and gears and no spray it would be sweet. but as of yet i havent been to the track yet to see where the car is at so right now im doing what i hate and thats speculating..But Im going next weeekend hopefully to get my base numbers.. wish me good luck and good numbers..

Yes, that's what I understand...the option code on my 95 LT1 says it has 3.23s.
From what I've been able to tell from other people's experience...going from 3.23s to 3.73s in the 1/4 mile yields a .10-.20 reduction in time. Since your talking the 1/8th I wouldn't expect to see more than a .10 reduction in time by just changing the gears.
