Ok, so today i went to bestbuy to listen to some of these speakers i have heard about on here to replace my door speakers in my 2000 SS. I listened to the Alpine SPS-17C2's and they sounded ok, but i was somewhat disapointed with all the hype these have gotten on this site. Then i listened to the Alpine SPR-17lp and they sounded a little better. Then i tried the Rockford Fosgate T162C's and they sounded amazingly louder, clearer, crisper, and just all around better than the Alpines.

Now, i was quite surprised, so i thought i would ask you guys if anyone has used these Rockford speakers (and if they would even wire to a monsoon stereo) and can tell me if there are any good in the car. Or, if maybe there was something wrong with the Alpines at the store and someone could tell me that they have heard both these speakers and the Alpines sound better.

Usually on the monsoon system you should keep the stock speaklers or if you change I believe you should stay at the 2Ohm rating speakers. Not totally sure but i beleive thats it

The reason that people go with the Alpines is because they can be run bi-ampable, using both sets of wires that are going to the stock Monsoon speakers. These wires are already crossed over at the amp so if you only use one set you will only get either mid-bass or high range, not both. You can use any coaxial speaker if you want, but the only way to do it right is to separate the inputs on the speakers so there is one for the woofer and one for the tweeter. The Alpines already have it separated out for you.

Also, sound walls in a store can be misleading as far as sound quality goes. You have to take into consideration the sound stage in your car and also the amount of power that you will be supplying to the speakers, not what amp they have on them at the time.
