Are you guys interested in a photo gallery? This would give you the ability to upload pics to your personal gallery plus a text box to enter details about your car, mod lists, etc.

Regular users would be limited to 1 gallery, while supporting members, moderators, etc. would get multiple galleries. 5-10 pictures per gallery probably.

This is something I can install pretty easily as I've just put it in over at 5thgen.org.

There are administrative considerations like storage/disk space and the size of the backup file. I can't give you unlimited numbers of pictures for those and other reasons. Things have to be kept "manageable" in case something goes down and I have to rebuild or restore the site.

I think 5 galleries of 6-10 pics each is more than enough for most people. This wouldn't be for hosting all of your personal pictures...that's what Community Webshots or something is for.

Sounds like a good idea because some people would like to see what each member has.

sounds like a good idea, as long as it doesnt mess up performance.

Yeah. A lot of us are here not only to learn about our beloved, but to see what others are doing and get ideas and see what we do and don't like. I think it would be an excellent idea so long as it doesn't slow down movement around the forum.

OK, the photo gallery is up!

Here's the scoop: Access through the navigation bar or through your USER CP.

Registered users get 1 gallery and up to 10 pics.
Supporting Member, Moderators, Sponsors get 3 galleries up to 10 pics in each gallery.

Max dimensions for now are 640 x 480 and it accepts .gif, .jpg and .png files.

Lets test drive it for a few days and see how we like it.

is this going to clog up the server and cause it to run slower?

No, it shouldn't. But if it does, I'll uninstall it.

How's that?

I'm not going to install it "just" for you, but you asked about performance, so I said if it turns out it slows the site down we won't keep it :D

The pics are actually stored in the file system on the server, not in the forum database, so it shouldn't slow down the actual operation of the forum or anything that's being pulled from the DB.
