Hello everyone out there. I am new to this forum and I own a 1994 Buick Roadmaster sedan. I am in the process of POWERING IT UP a little. I am going to be installing a Flowmaster American thunder exhaust system and I want to change My Catalytic Converters also. I have looked at The Catco brand and Magnaflow DIRECT FIT converters but both companies measurements are different as much as 1 3/4" in length for the converters. I have not Taken my system apart yet to get an accurate measurement, Its not very easy to try and measure on the vehicle. IF ANY ONE HAS HAD ANY GOOD RESULTS USING ONE OF THESE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:dontknow: it would be cool to hear from you.
I have CATCO's on my Caprice. I bought the small, universal replacement style through Summit for about $50 apiece, then let an exhaust shop install them. For stuff like that, the words "direct fit" are scary. More like "might fit".

You should ask on the ISSCA forum (ImpalaSSforum.com). It says Impala but it's for all B-bodies. I haven't but I know plenty of people there have and will help.

I agree.

Unless your cats are pluged over very worn out, they are very free flowing in stock form. I also agree to use the universal ones since they are much cheaper, and who knows what Direct fit means.

Gutting the cats is a BAD idea. On my single cat cadillac, it improved power, but it sounded awful. If I did it over I woulda just hacked it off. Also, the dual cats flow very well on B/D-body LT1's. I heard a dual exhuast before and after gutted cats, and after it sounded alot like a lawn mower afterwards. I would just put straight pipes in, the smell of 1970 exhaust is purdy enjoyable.... mmmm...:mullet:

I put on the Flowmasters AT with Random Tech converters, but you might as well get headers also. To get free flowing exhaust through the cats and pipes, you're gonna want to do the headers too.

I welded a gutted cat around my Y Pipe.
