View Full Version : Hypertech hand held
I know from experience that most posts about the hypertech hand helds are not favorable but what I'm looking to see is actual experience and of course the best proof is dyno readings, track times, SOTP, DTCs, problems and even things like gas mileage.
If there's any response, I will add my own take on them at what looks like the last of the post(s).
thanks

Well like I mentioned a HPP3 on my car stock cost me 2hp and gained zero ET or mph at the track.

For which car in your sig? I prefer DIY, try LT1 edit for the 94 or HP tuners for the 01.

The problem with the Hypertech on LT1s is the LT1 timing curve is pretty much optimized and on the ragged edge of knock from the factory. Hypertech adds a degree or two to that and it can cause pinging in some cars. The only other thing they do is lean out the pig rich WOT fueling, and part throttle is 100% untouched.

Same problem with the LS1's. Too much timing, not enough fuel.
We pulled one off a TA and it picked up power on the dyno with the stock tune :)

It has to do something good. So What exactly does it do good then?

Custom Tune is the only way to go:thumbsup:
A basic tune is only 150 bucks, plus the hour of labor, so about 200.
It's not really labor, now.. is it?
The only thing I can think of that a Hypertech does that I like, is the ability to change your gear ratio.
The HTPP3 is over $350.
IMO, not worth a dime.
