I recently bought a 94 LTI Firebird with a T-Trim Vortech and the Vortech air to water intercooler. The previous owner had it set up with a 2.87 pulley for use at a 7000 ft altitude. He recommended that I get a larger pulley for my cities 3500 ft elevation. How much boost is safe on a stock bottom end LT1? I don't want to find out the hard way, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

whats the mileage on the motor?you can run 5-7psi but if you plan on boosting it more i suggest a new short block built for boost. make sure you get it tuned and have the proper fuel system to support it.

I agree. Just remember sh*t happens so just go ahead and save up to do a rebuild. I blew mine with 6lbs and I only had 63,xxx miles on the motor. Not saying you will blow it, but just be prepared for it.

if its your daily driver i wouldnt go more than 5psi,unless your not worried about rebiulding down the road, you ll still be prettydamn quick with like 4.5

I asked the same question a while back and I got 4.5 psi or maybe 6psi or 12psi and run the crap outta it till it grenades, but I wouldnt reccomend that last one.haha

From what i hear, going over 5 PSI on a stock bottom is risky.
But isnt any S/C? :D

yea lt1's don't like boost to much. but at 5psi you should be ok for a while with a good tune.

When im done with college, ( Jan 07 baby!!, cant wait to graduate :D )
I will be looking into a newer SS.
Will the 01-02 LS1 hold up against 6-9 pnds of boost?
How long and how reliable ?
(Im not concerned about MPG, my last truck got 6-8 with the Holley. After that, anything I drive has been an improvement)

5-7 is safe for ls1 but it's all in the TUNE. how long will it last well it depends on lots of things so i can't say for sure.
