View Full Version : Chrome Moly stuff, good bad?

I am thinking of buying some suspension/chasis upgrades for my car since I have not boughten anything for it in a while. Is it worth the extra penny to get chrome moly stuff? Thought I herd it can crack, don't know, if someone can clarify that for me that would be great. Daily driven car.

It depends on how hard you drive the car really. The more stress you put on the car, the stronger equipment you want.

Don't really drive it that hard that often. The only reason why I realy made this post is because I have read some threads saying chrome moly can crack.

Chromemoly stuff is really overkill for a street car, and its actually a little heavier than mild steel.

:withstupi unless your car was a 90% track car, and 10% street car, it's nowhere near worth it.

Actually chromemoly steel is the same exact weight as its mild steel equivilant. You save weight on chromemoly parts because chromemoly is stronger and therefore you can use thinner material.

The problem w/ Chromoly is that it is and can be very brittle. For the stresses of a street car (pot holes, bumps, expansion joints) I would be worries that given the right situations the Chromoly would snap. Mild steel has some flex in it, or elasticity as it would be more correctly described as... That allows it to adapt to conditions a little better.
