now i know the ls1 fbodys are notorious for breaking the 10bolt rear that comes in it. now this has been bothering me for a while. what exactly breaks on them when someone says "i broke my 10 bolt"? also are there ways to strengthen it instead of buying a 9" or 12 bolt? if so please share. thanks.

Check my post #19 in that thread for an explanation of what breaks.

thanks chris. but what about making it stronger without going into the cost of a 12 bolt or 9". im just a poor college kid and i want it to be able to hold about 360-370hp(keeping it bolt on)with some Drag radials. or is that to much to ask of a 10bolt? its a M6 if it makes a difference.

I think I've said this before, but it was maybe on another forum. Yes, you can beef it up but you can't do anything to cure the central weakness.
You can add a crush sleeve eliminator, a girdle cover, and Moser axles. Those, along with a Strange or Motive gearset of 3.73 or less (4.10s pack too many teeth on the ring gear, meaning each tooth is thinner and therefore weaker) and a good posi like the Torsen, and you will buy yourself some extra safety margin.
But in the end the ring gear is just plain too small to be strong enough, and you can't do anything about the case, which can crack too.
IMO rather than spend any money on the 10 bolt at all, I'd start a 12 bolt fund. You could spend $600 easy beefing up the 10 bolt and still break it, or you could put that toward a new rear end.

The best and cheapest thing you can do to strengthen a 10 bolt is to get a TA girdle and stud kit. That's the gear cover if you want to think of it that way.

Then 10 bolts seem to survive quite a bit more with an auto. Manuals stap them like toothpicks because you're not applying any pressure on it before a launch, it's just a hit against it, which usually makes things blow.

Jyst to get a good posi unit will cost around 350.00+ and axles 200.00 and cover 140.00. So even to build one up could cost 700 to 1000.
I paid 1900 for a 9" new and I put it together and painted it. Thats hard to beat.
The torsen carrier in mine had shredded worm gears. It could have been fixxed, but I would of broke it again.
It lasted longer than I thought it would. Hard launches.
