wanna rebuild my trans. its the stock 60, may have a shift kit from previous owner (it chirps in second is the reason I assume this) planning a 383 stroker with an LT4 conversion and wanna make sure the trans can handle it.... plus as it is the trans has been "slipping" it sometimes wont shift at highway speeds (not sure what gear havent counted) its not a constant problem but I want it solved none the less. thinking of doing it my self. I considder myself pretty bright and handy and my friend is a machineist. I have been told i am better off buying a factory rebuild and that if I or a mechanic does it in a shop it will fail. What do I need to know and where can I find a good rebuild kit and a rebuild manual

Thanks for the link but I was looking for rebuild kits not full transmissions and the knowledge base to do it myself. I'd rather not pay $2000 if I dont have to. besides its more fun doing things your self :)

Go to http://www.700r4l60e.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=38&cat=22&page=1 this should give you the kit you need to hold up to some horsepower. This kit is very complete, and is what I use for my Street/Strip units in most cases with the addition of the HD steel sleeve & Cryoed forward piston. Let me know if I can be of help?

Prepare to buy some tools if you want to do it yourself.

Also, make yourself a work table that has a hole in it so you can stand the transmission straight up. :D

I think most people would call this spam since you're not a sponsor. I'm letting it slide this time but consider this a warning.

I'm sure Rock-On can sell kits as well even if its not on their site.

Im not bragging when I say this, so dont give me any BS!!

My uncle owns an AMCO Transmission shop, and I can get my entire tranny rebuilt with Borg Warner clutches for $400.00 ( good up to 350rwhp )

I told that to a friend of mine with a LS1 GTO and he told me that was a valuable hook.

I agree:D

But as for as that goes, I put a "Maddog" Tranny in my truck, they are awesome transmissons. Rock-on tranny's look promising too.

That truck had 7" of lift, with 32" Tires, and it didnt even phase that tranny.
