SLCss, i saw your S8(srt8) race posted. what's the car scean out that way? lots of fast and furious rice burners , are their some cute little mustangs owners who think they have the fastest car in town? or will i be at the top of the food chain?

Lots of rice and mustangs. There are a few mustangs that some people spent way to much money on. i have a couple friends with f body's one has a 99 formula with nos and a 02 z28 with a ls2 swap and 72 firebird with a big block monster but i think you would be the T-REX around here.

what's the gang situation? i saw a thing last night on tv about gangs in Oakland pretty much owning 25+ square miles and gunning each other down for wearing red, blue, and black? how's that up in lompoc/santa maria area? being in the usaf i have to wear blue to blue'ish gray uniforms and i dont feel like getting shot for going to McD's. will i get harassed from the local P.D. because of my exhaust(turbo)? i'm putting a muffler on it to make it quite. will my blacked out car be a police magnet?
sorry for all the questions & i thank you greatly

One good word of advice .... don't move here.
California is a great place to visit, but living here is a real PITA for car enthusiasts.
Being that your military, your best bet is to keep your car registered in your home state. If you decide to register it here you will have to have all C.A.R.B. (California Air Resource Board) certified aftermarket parts in order to register it here. Or you might be able to spend big bucks to have it 'passed'. I doubt this though since when bringing in a car from out of state they go through it with a fine tooth comb. (coming from Georgia I have first hand knowledge of the fun to be had.)
Blacked out lights and dark tint will make you a target for the LEOs and loud exhaust won't help.
Oakland is all but a hostile foreign country these days, I stay out of it or at best drive quickly through it.
We have a couple of good groups here that can help you get settled and meet some other car lovers.

i'm a ND resident w/ND plates & no emission laws in ND. i've been told as long as i am active duty and stay ND, i dont have to comply with CA emission / exhaust laws and CA can not enforce laws from other states. remember now, catalytic converters are federal and they can issue tickes and fines for not having them. i'm gambling on what i've been told, but i'm putting a Loudmouth2 on my turbo because right now with as loud as it is with no cats and just the turbo...... i'll do what ever i can to keep on the down low

You are correct, if it is registered in another state they can't do much to you here, other than hassle you a bit. Military folks are given a little slack here too.
But the no cats part is nationwide so the muffler is a good move to lessen the attention.

I'm at Travis and the base policy is to have your car smogged in order to get a base sticker. Get an updated sticker before you leave!

i've been told do to the cost of stickers & paper work, CONUS bases no longer require base registration. My buddy at Vandenberg told me not to worry either

Travis is the first base I've been at in a while that still uses base stickers...lucky me.

Im really not to sure about the gangs there. im down there a few times a month and never had any problems with any one. santa maria is a nice place.i probably make most of the cops nervous there any way.. last time i was down there one of my cut outs was stuck open and oddly enough a cop helped me fix it just north of santa maria i play with them to much.:D. cut outs not the cops. well good luck on the move.
