Anyone ever use the "Ring Gear" spacers to install a 3-series ring and pinion into a 2-series carrier?

yeah it's really simple to install. You just take out the 10 reverse thread bolts, put the spacer between the ring gear and the posi, redo the bolts, and you're done. It's crazy how monstrous the series 2 carrier ring gears were; so thick compared to series 3.
