which do u guys think looks better... im meaning like equally done up. cause one of my friends seems to think that no matter how done up my 4th gen camaro is that his 3rd gen camaro will win more car shows and looks from girls i beg to differ

4th gen, just for the motors. If I wanted an SBC powered car I'd go with a 1st gen or 2nd gen body.

they both can equally look good when done up.....it all depends on how well the car is put together and what class your in 2 win in car shows....
i personally like the 4th gen when done up right they look wicked good and being a female id go for a guy in a 4th gen rather than in a 3rd gen lol

A 3rdgen camaro blows away the looks of a 4th gen. The front end of 4th gens went from hideous to 12 pack ugly.

I have owned both, and I have to say the 3rd gen looks way better. The 4th gen is so pushed back and stretched out....Nose is too long, dash is too deep, engine is too far back in the cowl.

3rd gen with 315's out back poking out of the fenders....yeah...

And besides, 3rd gen do something none of the other ones do....TURN!

If you really have to have LT1/LS1 power, the swap is not that hard....I helped a buddy pull the 350 out of his 89 IROC just yesterday to make room for an LS1/T-56.

4th GEN's are beautiful to me. Buttttt....NOTHING will ever top a 91-92 FireHawk. Ive only owned 3rd gens so i have become very fond of them. But i found a car yesterday i would take over anything. Take a look at the link.

88' IROC LS1 T56 Interior and All (http://www.andrewchoset.com/iroc/iroc.html)

Point is 3rd Gen is my Fav.

Why? 3rd gens are lighter, and have a better setup front suspension from the factory.

I used to auto-x a 92 B4C/1LE Camaro a 305, and I kept up with LT1/LS1 guys all day long. In fact, at the Southwest divisional just a few weeks ago, a 92 B4C beat me and another guy in his 02 Z28.

There's no better looking F-body IMO than a red IROC-Z, period. I think the 3rd gen is a classic, the lines are so unique. The 4th is great but it lost a bit of its pinache.

I also think that the 3rd gens are far too boxy for me. My favorite would have to be the 93-97 4th gens, just because i do not like the headlights on newer 98+.

i really like the 98-02 camaros. id choose it over a third gen, however i have seen a 3rd gen in a electron blue or someting similar and it was gorgeous. third gens jsut have the mullet reputation

The thirdgen 'vert I have gets a lot of looks and you just don't see that many of 'em . The T/A is definite eye-candy and has a vastly superior interior. I really can't say one is better than the other.I like the 3rd's engine bay a lot better.

I really can't see how anyone could take a mullet over a 4th gen. Interior alone is enough for me. And yeah, the technology under the hood sucks in the mullet too.

Sure I know, no one is keeping it stock you say, but still. They just arent that great.

Plus you can't get a six speed in a mullet, and as far as handling is concerned, power should make the difference on most autox tracks between the generations. If someone is driving quicker in a 3rd gen, IMO its likely driver skill and grippy tires.

3rd gen handle better.

Horsepower means nothing at auto-x.

At Southwest Divisonal #2, LS1 (driven by Frank Bryan-finished 3rd at Nationals last year, and had top PAX at Divisional #1 for the entire event) lost to a 92 B4C/1LE 305 Camaro driven by Matt Miller. Both on Kumho V710's.

Also, 92 Firehawk came with ZF 6 speed.

There are so many ways to make power with a SBC, I wont even begin to get into it here.

You need to catch up with Mark Madarash and his 88 GTA that owns ESP, and tell him his car doesnt handle better than 4th gens.

Dont need horsepower to auto-x. Ever notice Miatas, with ~200 hp LESS than a Camaro, are in CS, a much faster class than FS?

Auto-x is ALL about handling and putting down what power you do have. LS1's have too soft front springs, too stiff rear springs, and wheel hop like a mofo.

A 305 3rd gen is MORE than a match for ANY stock 4th gen between the cones (and they are a lot cheaper to boot!)

Looks like you know your stuff about autocrossing fbods.
You rip out the nasty mullet interior for autox anyway :finger:

I am aware that Miatas are outstanding for road courses...but you won't see me in the nasty little weedwhacker.

I still like 4th gens better

Hmmm. Hard to say. They both are great looking cars, and both have huge amounts of potential(assuming you have 350 based engine in the 3rd Gen). I think they will be turn heads equally. I have seem some plain sick 3rd and 4th Gen F-bodies. I couldnt chose.

Obviously as a 3rd Gen owner I prefer them. But previous car was a 95 Z28 so I also love the 4th Gens.

in all honesty i absolutely hated 3rd gens... i thought they were the ugliest things ever but all i used to see when i was a kid was old shitty ones without the ground effects and slow as hell. then my good friend bought an 87 GTA and that started my obsession. seeing a nice 3rd gen in person really makes the difference. now i own a built for power 91 Z28 (deciding on my motor options). ive been in many 4th gens and i like them too but im slowly disliking them just because of the cramped engine bay really. i like to SEE my motor and all its nice accessories. i also really like the lines of the 3rd gens because they are unique and have that 80s-90 ferrari boxed look. i also think 3rd gens look more like a muscle car than the 4th gens cause those look like every other round bulky car on the road...chrysler especially. id still take an LS1 any day i mean who wouldnt and id take an LT1 as long as i put an RK Sport ground effect kit on it to make it look meaner oh and id put an LS1 in it cause thats what it should have. so if you havnt realized already, my vote goes to 3rd gen Camaros 87-92

The heads are different. There was some sort of a clearance issue tha forced the used of FWD heads I think.

The 3rd gen maro has an ass ugly interior. Much too spartan for my taste. I always liked the GTA interiors. I'm iffy on the 4th gens' interiors. Haven't been in any long enough to have it grow on me yet.

The TTA motor did have different heads for clearance issues IIRC, but I think they were platform specific cast. Not sure on that though. Billy should pop in here and make mention, he might know.

LiquidFire350
08-14-2005, 02:34 AM
ok i guess i have werid taste, red interior is ugly, i dont see what the big deal is about having an Iroc, i doesnt look any different from other camaros, unless im missing somthing, oh and i had a 3rd gen, the 87 5.0 H.O. one-tire-fire-from-hell

my opinion on the apperance of all F-bodys is this
1st gen - Camaro
2nd gen - Firebird
late 2nd gen - Both
3rd gen - Firebird
LT1 4th gen - Camaro
LS1 4th gen - Both

so if its between a 3rd and 4th gen camaro, id take the 4th gen

ThrashN

LS1 guys- keep in mind that the fastest production f-body happens to be a 3rd gen int TTA form, and i also agree that a 3rd gen will out handle the 4th gen any day of the week

if i had to choose, i'd say 3rd gen, particularly a 92 Formula, with a LS1 and a T-56-best of both worlds

Iroc313

nice debate! im a 3rd gen guy and ill admit they have their downfalls but you have to get a good looking one. my fav is the 91-91 z28's because of the ground fx and the aero package. i dont think you can beat it looks wise...period. the mullet thing comes with the car but so does the "turd pinched off early" apperance with the 93-97 4th gens :P the lt1's and ls1's are nice motors and if i had one im sure id dump money into it and be fast as hell but a genI sbc is so much easier to work on. ThrashN said it right, 4th gen = Geo storm on steriods...a lot of steriods!!! NOW on the other hand...while im a bigger fan of camaros overall id drop my 91 z in a heartbeat if i came across a black with black leather 2000+ T/A with the Ram Air and WS6 packages. those cars are beautiful!!! the firebirds are so much better looking then the camaros after 98. oh, id take a 35th anniversary SS too but only if it were free :D

i think some of you have been sniffing something...how can you say a turd gen..oops i mean third gen looks better then a 4th gen. I have a 98 and everyday i have people askin me if my car is brand new and giving me thumbs up..also to me nothing comes close to a 98 or newer WS6..those cars just look so badass. As for the handling aren't the suspensions from a third and 4th gen basically exactly the same??? Not to mention i remember reading somewhere that a 98 SS does a .90 on the skidpad stock so you can't say 4th gens handle bad

I love driving the wife's 99 SS. It is fun, fast and looks sharp as hell.
I also love the looks I get when I drive the 92 RS. The handling is not the best (due to worn out suspension) but that will soon change.
As far as working on a car, the 92 RS is hands down the easiest for me to work on. I have put alot of time, money, blood, sweat and tears into that car. Needless to say it is my favorite. Not because of what year or model it is, it is because of the time I have spent on that car.
I am not some redneck mullet sporting, dip chewing deer molester but I do like fast cars. Any year, any make, any model it doesn't matter to me. I enjoy the car just because I can. :jif:
