Enthusiast 02-08-2006, 09:46 PM Okay guys here is the build plan:
7K RPM fully forged 383.
GM LT4 heads ported by Joe Overtons guy or Lloyd Elliot (who would you shoose) What heads would you use?
A big cam that will make power way up top. (want to talk to Joe about matching the cam to the heads.)
What kind of ballpark power numbers do you think ill be looking at here, and quarter mile times?
If I sprayed where do you think that would get me?
This will be through an M6 and a 9 inch. (not sure on gear ratios yet
Firehawk 526 02-08-2006, 10:03 PM 12 bolt I hope (lol), and what is your race weight?
Sounds like a potentially good low 10 sec car (juiced) IMO, but just speculating w/o more info!
It should  your world:D
1970judge 02-08-2006, 10:03 PM With a set of raceport lt4's on a 396 you could squeel out like 500hp so on a 383 expect a tad lower. Dont worry about LE. The AFR lt4's can be cleaned up abit probobly. on nitrous you could see 9's low 10's. You will need one hell of a trans and rearend and i hope you plan to spend a shitload of money time and cussing. And if you want a 9" i hope you got some patience and ..more money.
Enthusiast 02-08-2006, 10:13 PM Yes I am well aware of the money. I have began pricing all my parts and small stuff, and boy does it add up fast, but you'd be amazed at the kind of money you save with certain conections and friends.
And you said raceport LT4s, who does this porting? Why shouldnt I worry about LE? I was going to use ported Gm castings not AFR, will these be okay? Should I go with AFRs instead? Sorry but your post just confused the shit outta me.
And why would I need patience with the 9inch? They are so easy to work on. I guess there a bitch to install in an F-body maybe?
LT1-TA 02-08-2006, 10:24 PM why did you decide on LT4 heads? if you don't mind me asking...
Enthusiast 02-08-2006, 10:31 PM Well I can get them real cheap and i thought maybe fully ported they would be enough to feed a 383 up high. I wasnt sure though and thats why I put what heads would you use? I was also looking at going with some trickflows or bare afr lt4s and assembling them myself. I was just throughing that out there
Enthusiast 02-08-2006, 10:33 PM Hey kinda off topic but are you (LT1-TA) dragframe on Ls1tech.
1970judge 02-08-2006, 11:04 PM Ok AFR sells there lt4 raceports. Take them to my buddies since your in my area get em cleaned up where AFR slacked off. 9" take alot of custom fab work and are very expensive. LE..i dont really have an appropriate nickname for him. Just forget about him put it that way. Joe overton is good but for location go to my buddies.
Enthusiast 02-08-2006, 11:07 PM Your buddy have a website or maybe someplace I could look at some of his work. I just want to make sure hes good
1970judge 02-08-2006, 11:11 PM Its buddies and they have an ACTUAL shop they have ACTUAL degrees from SAM school. They build REAL race cars contrary to LE who is a shadetree porter. Ill pm you the address. They build motors everyday, for customers they have several shops cars one of which will be setting records soon. With LS7 heads on it. Good friends of mine!
Enthusiast 02-08-2006, 11:15 PM PMed recieved. Ill try and get out there one day when I have time. Okay back to the original question? Which heads and what kinda power?
1970judge 02-09-2006, 07:23 AM My choise of head would be the set of lt4 race ports send them to chris and chris to get em cleaned up. On a 383 with a badass assembly id say you would see 40-450 hp. Throw some nitrous at it see the upper 500's. Give chris and them a holler tell them marcus sent you and they will get the ball rolling. They can tell you in detail. They will build you a badass stroker if new motor is in your future.
TangerineTA 02-09-2006, 08:57 AM LE who is a shadetree porter.
A pretty damn good shadetree porter. I hear alot of good things about his work. Also put down good #'s and 1/4 mile times. I know of a few 9.7X sec 355's on ls1tech that are happy with his work. Do a search and you will find alot of good things about him...
Besides I have to stick up for him because that's where I'm getting my heads done:D
Chris 96 WS6 02-09-2006, 09:00 AM Lloyd did mine too, back before there was such a thing as "LE2" and so on.
I agree in principle that an educated and trained person is a better bet than self-taught, but that is like all other generalizations it is wrong sometimes. That's true in business, in computers, and racing/engine building.
Personally if I were going to send my heads to anybody it would be Daryl White at RPM (one of our sponsors). He's local, so I've met him, he does as good a work as anybody, has fair prices, and is also SAM trained and a former SAM instructor.
LT1-TA 02-09-2006, 09:05 AM Hey kinda off topic but are you (LT1-TA) dragframe on Ls1tech.
lol.. yeah (how'ed ya know?)... who are you???
And on the heads, LT4 heads are great... in sto0ck form they have a better design and the ports all have a better flow path... lemme see if i can bring the site up on the differences on the LT1 and the LT4... the LT4 heads do have their advantages, but im not sure how much that comes into play ones you get into porting or AFR heads.
EDIT: here is a good lil link http://www.grandsportregistry.com/lt1vslt4.htm
here is a good deal if you want it all.... http://www.racingjunk.com/exec/ca/view/432314/classifiedad.html
i would like to hear some peoples opinions on that... dart block.... JE/SRP pistons... forged eagle stuff...
Enthusiast 02-09-2006, 11:01 AM Im Enthusiast on Ls1tech. And I just noticed alot of your posts where alike and I was just wondering if it was you
