lol trust me i dont consider it anything more than a girly car with a turbo, but the new charger i would def consider a sports car.

Somebody at Dodge must have woke up and said "Wait a minute, it's a freaking Neon?!?"

I bet they were getting killed on warranty work.

Getting killed on warranty work

Tell me about it. Boost controller (or whatever the hell it is)87 octane, summer days and the goofballs who race anything moves even with momma in the car. Thats what i call warranty work

Dont flame but i have nothing against the cars that are making 200+ hp out of a 4-cylinder. And some of them even look good doing it. Its just the damn idiots that drive them. I think that there is a Horse Power/Mechanical Knowledge barrier for the dummys. I think once they hit about 150hp they now quit a bit about cars. When they get 200 hp the know a WHOLE LOT about automobiles. At 250hp they know most everything. Hitting the 300 hp mark and they know EVERYTHING.

no man i totally agree with u.. i mean it is still a neon but for wat it is its fast dont care for the looks to much but thats just me.. but most of them are assholes behind the wheel.. but from wat i hear from them the feeling is mutual towards us f-body drivers

The problem is no matter what they do with the Neon, in the end it's still a Neon. It's still a cheap beginners car. It's resale value still drops like a rock. It's still cheaply made. And 99% of the public would not look twice at one. What are you going to tell people? Oh it's a special Neon?

Phoenix57

srt-4 owners will never call it a neon.

i agrre on the cheap but begginers car i dunno... yes v8 rwd is in a dif class but i think the srt4 can hold its own with speed and handling it isnt to far behind our cars thats y i wouldnt call it a begginers car. and those things are obnoxiously loud. my friend srt4 drwons out my car and i have the loud mouth on mine. but of course mine sounds way better

Maybe the SRT4 isn't, but a Neon is. And to nearly everyone on the planet, they don't know what an SRT4 is. They do know though that Neon=Hi. And "aww look at the Neon, it's so cute"

im just wondering wat dodge has it up its sleeves next. maybe somethin AWD to compete with the EVO and STI or maybe they will give up and put more money into there new foound muscle car

I think the SRT8 Charger and the soon to be coming Challenger are where Dodge is going to go.

Well, I'm glad to see Dodge steering away from the ricebox import scene at least. Challenger should be awesome.

If I'm not mistaken, Dodge is completely dropping the Neon platform, so if there is another SRT4, it probably won't be based on the Neon.

I know I'm in the minority, and I am a bit bias since my fiance drives one, but I think they're pretty cool little cars. Sure, they aren't V8s, but for the price, they offer excellent performance.

I came back from the bar one night to see a red SRT4 in my driveway. Roommates having a party.

I left the Formula rumbling outside and walked in and loudly asked "Who the **** is driving the Dodge Neon outside?"

The guy was an Army Ranger and was quick to say "Oh thats my SRT 4 man"
I looked at him like he was queer "What's an SRT 4? I meant the Neon in my parking spot".

He moved it with the mandatory blowoff valve/revlimiter stomps, and after I feigned ignorance about the thing, proceeded to explain for about half an hour what an SRT 4 is and how mad fast they are.Claimed 13 second runs from the factory.

Deep down those guys know they're the underdog. I guess I really am that "asshole domestic owner".

Kudos to Dodge for killing it.

Some guy around here drives a blue one. Sleeper all it has is the hood no wing or wheels. But it IS an srt4. It has a mad fat turbo in it and he is quick as all get out. Ill give em the credit they deserve.

And just why shouldnt we consider it a sports car. MPH magazine recently (May 2005) did a comparison of the Dodge Neon SRT-4 ACR and the BMW M3 with the Competition Package. The SRT-4 ( Costing less than half the Bimmer) was able to run within .15 seconds and .12 mph a lap of the M3. The M3 is definelty a sports car, one of the best, and the fact that the srt-4 could hang with it shows that it to is a sports car.

Because true sports cars are 2 door for one, and also true sports cars only have 2 seats.

It might be a "sporty" car or a "performance" car, but its not a sports car.

So you know under your guidelines a Porsche 911 is not a sports car neither is a mclaren F1.

Why are those 2 not sports cars? 2 doors, 2 seats....

Does a porche have a little joke of a back seat? If so I gues yeah the rules can be fudged but here's one rule that can't be fudged:

A true SPORTS CAR doesn't start out as a little economy 4 cylinder car. A real sports car can only be bought as a sports car. There's no Dodge Viper 4 cyl, or Corvette Sedan, or Porche 911 wagon........

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the SRT4 isn't a nice car, or that its rice or gay or anything....its just not a sports car in the correct, traditional sense of the term.

The mclaren F1 isn't considered a sports car because until recently it was the fastest car in the world you would'nt classify that as a sports car

Yes the 911 is a 2+2 and the mclaren F1 is a three seater with the driver sitting in the middle. So your telling me what makes a sports car is how many it seats and how many doors it has and not how it handles and drives. Oh sounds like an awesome explanation.

So your explanation would classify the Nissan 350z as a sports car but the infiniti g35 almost the exact same car but with 4 seats not one.

Correct. The G35 is a sporty luxury coupe/sedan. The 350Z is a sports car.

And the 300zx has two doors and two seats. Making it a sports car but the 2+2 version, THE EXACT SAME CAR WITH 2 MORE SEATS, Is not just becuase you can cram two more people in it so you can scare the hell out of them.

Phoenix57

a sports car is REAR WHEEL DRIVE or maybe AWD! and no the McLaren F1 is not a sports car, its not even close, its a uber-supercar.

1) See below
2) A sporty car

A sports car is a car that is built to perform well without much else in mind. Therefore, a car with four doors goes against the description of a sports car. The car has 4 doors or a backseat for the purpose of hauling around passengers or storing groceries. Thus, if a car has these things, it was not built with performance as the primary intent- and thus is not a pure sports car but rather a sporty car.

Enthusiast
08-04-2005, 10:15 PM
So a 911, one of the most winningest cars of all times, is not a sports car simply because it seats four people. The McLaren F1 was the most uncomprimised car of all times there was no changing to make the execs happy it was the fastest thing on 4 wheels. Its only purpose was to perform well but it has 3 seats so therefore it is also not a sports car. Are you people reading these things that you post. There ridiculous.
