just wondering what to expect once i put my old motor in my new car but im wonderign how well i would do against one with my slighty modded 350 TPI. ive seen them runnign low 14s high 13s at the track, that seems about where they are. right on par with an lt-1.

Not yet but did you see HP TV this weekend? The supposedly LS1 equal 05 GT put down 255 stock.........welcome to 1993 LT1 territory finally.
After exhaust and intake it put down a more respectable 271. Still far from stock LS1 territory.

Havent run one yet but my cousins has a silver 05 gt. it sucks. Plain and simple.
With the 5spd auto i could drop to first rev it and hammer her and nothing. No wheel spin but second gear is nice pull for a mustang though.

I beat a blue auto one by about 5 cars in the ta, then ran a coworkers new one last weekend, his is a stick but a put 2-3 on him, up to 100 and I was starting to pull harder so may have been ugly for him. :twak:

They definitely have better potential than the 2V 4.6s... that extra valve there gives you some great possibilities. I'm eager to see what limitations they'll run into though, they hit 10s pretty quickly.

I think he got the 10 with a shot not sure how much. I know he ran an 11 with gears, suspension stuff and some kind of CAI (maybe a chip of some sort).

Yah the regular 2 valve 4.6's are hard to get goign fast stock some kid at dyno day put down like 193. But some guy with a 2 valve 97 cobra put down liek 259 or somewhere in there. And it was cammed to it sounded nice.
At least they look pretty good :fluffy:

funny you pasted this thread. i was coming home from work mybe 2 hours ago and ran into one on the highway. an older guy, probably 50-60, pulls up next to me and nods his head. at first i thought he was just sayin nice car, then he stomped it, i was like wtf?? so i went along with it, and lets just say the race didnt last long after i nailed it. i slowed down for him to catch up but he wouldnt roll up near me again, lol.
theyre stock numbers are pretty pathetic, i must say. i read a magazine article when they first came out and it dynoed 260. but as you guys said, i think there is potential there. im waitin to see what the new cobra can do

Every 03 I've heard of dynos in the 360-370 rwhp range. They run very strong from the factory, but weigh a lot.

The 03-04 Cobra gain a crapload of power from simple mods (pulley and chip). Alot of the guys in this area are switching to a solid axle also.

yeah but when ya think about it, it just turns it into a GT suspension wise. so the handling isnt that ad. plus those IRS's cant handle hard launching.

I'd guess it's not so much out of want but necessity, the Cobra IRS can't take that much shit when it comes to a hard launch.

So far they won't with me.
Couple weeks back a guy in a Lightning pulls up to me on the highway - smiles and gives me a thumbs up and I reply with the same and we end up messing around playing leap frog on the highway. We come up to a white 05 stang driven by a guy probably in his late 20s and all he does is get out of our way. Been that way with just about every mustang I encounter. I'm thinking it's time to put in a muffler. :p

I haven't noticed that the mod motor has ever caught on with the aftermarket like the 5.0 did. I think the LS1 is the new 5.0 in that respect. The DOHC stuff is just too expensive to sell parts for and make any money. You sure don't see the diverse array of products for the 4.6's that you do for the LS motors.

I couldnt agree more and thats what i keep trying to explain to people. Almost everyone out here, outside a few of my friends, are mustang lovers. I hate new stangs but ill still talk to the guys because there car guys and drive V8 powered rear-drivers, How bad could they be? Almost all of the guys i talk to that are heavily modified and N/A say it wasnt even worth it because there still losing to internally stock LS1s. One guy told me before his 04 mach1 he had a 99 TA. He said he changed cams in both cars and he said LS1 took him about 7 hours and the GT took him a week. He said if he could he woulg go back and not do the cams because the hassle just wasnt worht it. Ive always thought that you can't have a engine that is embraced by tuners if its a pain in the @$$ to work on. I think thats where Ford went wrong witht he Mod Motor. Ive worked on many 5.0s and had a lot of fun but i never dared venturing into the heart of a 4.6

This is a f-body site, the least you guys could do is not say nice things about cruststangs!!! All mustangs are slow. A cobra is not the same to me as ford motor company did not originate the name cobra, it took a wonderful man named CAROL SHELBY to come up with that name... And correct me if i am wrong, but MR. SHELBY built all the fast mustangs back in the day, and now JACK ROUSH builds all the fast ones, with one exception the SALEEN, wich i am sure they had help with.F-BODYS WILL ALWAYS RULE.....

correct, but you said 'modded' mustang. his point was stock vs stock. either way i respect the 03 cobra. but to me, it seems that the only way for can make big power from the factory is with a supercharger slapped on top. anything they have that is n/a is slow (from the factory) compared to f-bods. the fox body 5.0's were quick. but even they only had what? 250hp? We have a couple that come out to the track. They dial 14.00 to 14.05 in typical weather. I have a crappy picture of the one that parked next to me in the pits with his dial in, Just haven't figured out how to post it here yet.
