Looks cool but somehow I think GM's trying to get the F-body away from the Mulletmobile image :D

Now that looks better!!! Nicer than the camaro but don't know if it's the color that makes it nicer.
With the TA in mind it would be tough to choose between the Challenger or the TA.

You know the younger crowd does not see the second gen's as mullet mobiles, right? Dodge has embraced there mullet moron's and made an ad campaign of it. Maybe GM should do the same. The kid with the mullet and the second gen now should have some disposable income to by a new retro version of his teenage pride and joy.

That's not an official picture, its just a chop job. There are STILL NO OFFICIAL plans to bring back the Firebird.

When GM shows a concept Firebird then I'll buy into it. The thing is we knew the Camaro was in the works for years thanks to GM insiders, those same folks have been saying for years the Firebird is still dead. It makes no business sense to bring it back, as it just cannibalizes sales off the Camaro.

at the detroit auto show there were rumors of the camaros and firebirds coming back in 2009. they look ok, i think they need to change the nose tho, it looks like it ran into a wall.

i wouldn't be suprised if some aftermarket company makes a modified camaro kinda like that. at a rediculus premium

it does make sense that a t/a will take sales away from the camaro. but hey...who knows? maybe gm will decide to pull off a total retro theme and bring something like that out a year after the camaro. just like in '67 and '68.:)

GM would have sell quite a few camaros to merit getting a firebird line going. And honestly.... I don't see that happening. The camaro, while decent looking does not appeal to the crowds of F-body fans I have talked to, though its followers are growing in numbers. The powertrain looks to be strong, which will be the best thing going for it. But ultimately GM will prolly make it way overpriced and the mustang and challenger will beat it out. I think a retro firebird would sell better but pontiac would have to compete with its beloved GTO and in this day and age this will not happen.

wow, where did you find that picture at?
http://transamcountry.com/
A guy on this site did a photo chop from the camaro. SO THIS IS NOT FROM GM, JUST SOMEBODYS DRAWING. But I can tell you it is on every f-body site and GM knows about it. I think this car looks 10 times better than the new camaro. It would be sweet if they built something close to this car.

personally it has the wrong year influencing it. it should be using the 1970-72 body as more of an influence IMO
Transamman25
01-19-2006, 12:02 AM
We now need Photoshop geeks get to work on his 70-72 Trans Am influenced concept .. that might be worth lookin at .. although it'd be hard to beat a gorgeous T/A like that hell also the first site to host such a beast.

It makes no business sense to bring it back, as it just cannibalizes sales off the Camaro. That is such a wrong statement!
I for one would not buy a Camaro just because there is no bird to buy.
Allot of people feel that way.
They have cars they like & want vs cars they don't like & don't want.
Chevy put more $$ into promoting the Camaro over it's lifetime & didn't equally promote the bird so the Camaro name is more "popular".

OK, then try this fact on for size. Firebird represented less than 1/3 of 4th gen sales, yet consumed 2/3rds of the budget for things like improvements, restyles, upgrades, etc.
Imagine what Camaro could have been if it had even had a 50% share of the budget. The 2-sister car setup was inefficient.
I realize "a lot of people feel that way" but "a lot", unless you can put some hard number to it, doesn't mean much to me. I still say it would eat more Camaro sales than it would generate otherwise new sales.
Now if the issue is Firebird v. GTO, which one 1. cannibalizes less Camaro sales and 2. attracts more new sales that otherwise would have gone to other car makers?
Hint, its not the Firebird.

Not True:no:
Alright lets be honest here...
Besides the nameplates, the skeleton of the F-Body is identical.
and sorry to tell you, the firebird appeals to a younger audience, yet cost more, and it cost more to promote and restyle. Chris is dead right.
The Camaro name didn't require as much effort, because well, its history and name.
Not to say the Firebird isnt a Legend, but the Camaro is known as GM's deal on wheelz, bang for the buck pony car, and the firebird is known as " the sister " why you say?, The Camaro was introduced First in 1967 to battle the Stang, the Bird was a frame-to-frame copy that came out a half year later and used many of the same powerplants. 350's, 396's, etc... Not to mention, they kinda looked alike:hello:
If one line dies, the other dies. GM knows that releasing a New Camaro will have the Pontiac Boys sayin, " ok, now where's the T/A? "
I think its selfish to think that way, but I understand if I imagine myself in those shoes.
Sadly, the Bird boys might have to suck it up here. If the new Camaro doesnt sell good, do you actually think GM will take the chance with a T/A, in the shape their in now?
But, if it does sell to expectations or better, you might just see youre new firebird, but i wouldnt hold my breath.
The GTO is getting refined...(again) The Mustang sales are off the charts, not to mention the highly antipated Challenger ( I'm a mopar fan, and I dont care what you say, that new dodge is SICK ), 350Z's sell good every year, and Toyota is thinking Supra again. And this is just a few competitors the Camaro has to face.
Its not just about speed anymore. Its 2006, by the time its released, if it is, 2008-2010. The new Camaro needs to be ready to tread into such dangerous and competitive water.
GM is taking a chance with this new Camaro, but they dont have many cards left to play, so hopefully it will be a good hand.
And that right there, is the damn black and white truth.
Lets hope GM is Faithful. :blah:

The GTO is getting refined...(again)Actually the GTO is going away: http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060221/REG/60221009/1003/newsletter08&refsect=newsletter08
So "if" the Camaro does well, which I don't think it will, the bird may soon follow.
Of course dropping the GTO could have been in GM's plan to pave the way for the bird.
