DavidS1 02-05-2009, 07:43 PM so theres this ugly guy i work with that owns a ss camaro slp, 345 hp, right? well its stock and automatic and i imagine he is very insecure about himself because he paid 23000 for it and all he can do if i mention my car is tell me, a.) its a piece of shit or b.) im a ****** with a weak car.
Now i let things go easily and as long as nobody puts there hands on me im cool, but he wont race me unless I put two bills on it. Him being 23 and living with mommy and daddy has the money easily and me, 18 struggling paying for school on my own, needs time to get that extra sum. So....
my question is, what do i need to do to my car to just race him and get him to keep his mouth shut? right now i have a z28, with filter, lid, thermostat, exhaust and it has skipshift eliminator, not sure if its programmed. Im putting new rear tires on so i also need to know whats the widest i can go on the stock rims, but ill buy new ones if i need.
Thanks a bunch! all in good fun though of course
DavidS1 02-05-2009, 08:07 PM oh, and i have an m6 tranny,
Snigga 02-05-2009, 08:22 PM Sorry if I missed it but what year is your car? You said you have a lid so I am assuming an LS1...This is going to be a driver's race. His auto isn't going to miss a shift so you need to be in top shape with your driving. If you really wanna put him in his place, get a bottle for a guaranteed win.
Get a set of sticky tires or i'm afraid he will win.
The base 345 package was just a Donaldson Blackwing lid, & a SLP Dual-Dual catback that gave it the 345 hp rating, of course along with the LS6 intake and different cam specs.
I have a 02 Hawk A4 and my friend had a 01 SS M6. We'd race all the time from a roll and i'd always have a car and a half to 2 cars on him every time. He could drive alright, but i'd always win from a dig.
So get yourself some tires and launch your car!
DavidS1 02-05-2009, 08:40 PM yea, i know tires are a must, what are the widest i can go on stock rims? how wide should i go? Also my car is 98 and would my chances be better of the line or at a roll?
You would kill him from a roll.. point blank. But he'll probably want to run from a dead stop.
You have the stock 16 x 8 rims? I'd say.. you should be able to fit up to a 255/50 safely. But thats my opinion. I don't think you can go to a 275, but i could very well be wrong.
DavidS1 02-05-2009, 08:54 PM what speed do you think? i was thinking 35 mph in 1st gear cuz i know it'll take his car a second to downshift appropiatley. before i race him im looking at getting probably 275's on the rear and getting msd wiring and .040 gap plugs
i'd say 35 should be good as long as your still in 1st. He'll be close to 2nd at the time out of his power range. You'll still pull on him like no tomorrow.
DavidS1 02-05-2009, 09:24 PM alright that gives me supreme confidence. =) any opinions on n20? it seems too good to be true

Why would he "kill" him from a roll? These cars are pretty closely matched...

30 mph will be your best bet. It's as low as you can go without his car downshifting. He will stay in second gear and you won't.
The 1/4 mile MPH difference is at least 4 mph. If they race at 35 mph the auto is out of its power range which is where the auto will be shifting into 2nd and having the rpms come down closer to 4000-4300 vs. the Manuals 5500 he will just leave him sitting still.
Plus, even though the 345 package includes a better than factory lid & exhaust, David's car has a better flowing Lid & Filter & exhaust than the 345 package offers.
DavidS1 02-05-2009, 10:02 PM yeayea, i have real dual exhaust, but i thought the slp came stock with a cold air intake, thus the functional hood scoop
Nope, just factory with a Donaldson Blackwing lid, the SS's Ram air is like a maze. The air goes into the scoop, then makes a total 180 turn back towards the front then it still has to make another 180ish turn back into the bottom of the lid base.
Its really useless IMO.
DavidS1 02-05-2009, 10:14 PM aaaah i c, well then this guy lied about it being stock cuz his hood was open for a sec and it had the cone for the intake
1eyedmaro 02-05-2009, 10:30 PM uuugh ooo! haha dont loose the money. its more important if you dont know that you can beat him for sure.
aaaah i c, well then this guy lied about it being stock cuz his hood was open for a sec and it had the cone for the intake
You don't know what he's telling you, he could be good at ripping people off by "forgetting" about some of his mods. I say "forget" about the little blue bottle you have hidden where the spare tire used to be. This way at least you won't lose your $200 :)

Yes but if they go from 30, the auto will still come down around 3700 rpms in second. If factory tune, it won't go down to first. He can then downshift his manual and be right around 5000 and have an even better pull. What I was saying was that 30mph would be the most advantageous speed, not that 35mph wouldn't be a very similar outcome but with money on the line, I would want every edge.
NviouSS 02-06-2009, 12:27 PM hell, i'd race him for that if my car was fixed and lived near you.
DavidS1 02-06-2009, 03:07 PM well just let me say first that i love this sight, its so very informative :LS1LT1flag:
i have been leaning toward nitrous but it seems too good to be true, im surte i could hool it up but its all the variables i get worried about. it seems like it'd be pretty complicated
Just get a nice wet kit and stick to a 100 shot if you're worried about damaging your engine. Its actually pretty safe when done correctly and you could created another thread where some people who run nitrous could walk you through the instal/what all you need.
DavidS1 02-06-2009, 08:58 PM alright so my conclusion is put on my new rear tires and go leasrn how to install nitrous and then bet his pink slip bwahahaha

Sounds good to me!

Not arguing or nothing but the reason why i say 35 is in my past experience, I could get both my 02 hawk and 94 Z both w/ 3.23's and A4's (4L60E's) and I could always get them to downshift into 1st at 32. 32 was the magic number for the 3.23's 36 or so was the number for when my 94 Z had the 2.73's.

do you spray?

I don't doubt it. I was just going off my experience with my current T/A when it had 3.23s. Had to be under 30mph for me. I lost many races from 30 rolls because of it when it was stock.
do you spray?
Nah, not yet :)
tribesman2004 02-23-2009, 12:32 AM Honestly, I'd say hell with him. He's lying to you about his car, he seems to be trying to goad you into betting him. Its not hard to imagine him getting the shift points reset on his gear box, which would make most of our advice a recipe for disaster. Spray is probably your best bet. If you were looking to mod your car more down the road, I would say spring for an intake now as well.
