I'm sure you were all good in '05 and Santa did you well.

Personally, I had planned on some weight loss for the '57, but nothing for the Camaro. Then, my boss arranged a little "attaboy" for me, not a whole lot (especially after the government got their mitts on it), but enough to get me thinking. Then, I end up working some overtime during the normal holiday shutdown, so that will add to the attaboy.

So, I'm thinking a new solid cam for the '57. Have wanted to do this for a couple of years, had one picked out but now will probably go one step higher (Comp XS282S).

If there's enough left over, perhaps a console Megashifter for the Camaro. My son may race it in '06.

So, what're your plans?

Well w/ two cars now I am at a middle ground on which I really want to tear into. The TA needs intake/headers... I got the headers ready to put on, but am too damn lazy. W/ the SS I want to do headers and bolt ons this year, then see what I decide later... Who knows. Might sell the TA, buy a beater, and then spend the rest for cam etc for the SS...

The TA needs to be sold dood. What's a 23 yr old need with a car payment AND another 1/2 junk car to burn up money on?

Mine's got a Racetronix pump kit, bilsteins and a line lock on the way this winter.

You don't need those bilsteins!!! Need to let me take them off your hands!!! Hurt your launch dude!!!

Triple threat car...street/strip/track....that's always been my goal.

Besides, they can't hurt the launch any more than the stock 73,000 mile DeCarbons

Shutup... Mine are almost 83k mile DeCarbons!!!

I dont plan to race until i get my suspension done but before season starts cam, stall, gears, then shocks springs sfc's relocation brackets.

Fenster
12-28-2005, 10:22 AM
Why not? Its not gonna hurt to race. Suspension will help w/ the launch etc, but its not gonna be a problem to run before then...

I've got a bit planned. Bigger cam, tranny swap (built stage 5 4l60e), gear swap, direct port N2O, torque arm, and maybe a coupe of other little goodies.

Nothing too big for 2006. Maybe try a different intake and I need a better converter.

I found a used Megashifter, need to get the microswitches for it. So, 1 down.

Will probably be ordering the cam and a damper for the 396 in the next week or so. I'm going to try to work out a deal on new slicks with the tire stores locally.

Ehhh, I think you got sold a bill of goods...the LT4 conversion ain't all it is cracked up to be. Stock LT4 heads don't flow near what a set of fully ported LT1's do, and the LT4 hotcam is sort of a mediocre grind IMO.

A set of fully ported LT1 heads and a CC 224/230 would have gotten you more power and probably would have been much cheaper. I have $1200 in my fully ported Lloyd Elliot heads and with that cam I put 360 to the wheels through a 2800 stall.

A stock LT1 car will hit 150+ in 5th....might just take a little more road to do.

You shouldn't have to use 6th to gain speed really. 6th is more of a cruise/save gas gear.

Just curious what everyone plans on doing over the course of the year?

Some M to A's, we know:D

Think it about time for my first internal mod this fall after my final car payment:

Futral FMS 228/230 cam 112 LSA
w/ASP underdrive pulley (and of course new rods/retainers/springs/LS2 timing chain)

WE all know what'll be next ------ clutch/rear upgrades soon thereafter:eek:

over the course of the year, SFCs, rear(if i got the money), LCAs, tires, LS6 manifold

There is a similar thread on the Drag Racing forum.

For the '57, I've got a new Comp XS282 solid lifter cam, the things required to get it installed, and an SFI-rated damper. Should complement the RPM Air Gap I got last fall and the 3500 stall converter very well.

For the Camaro, I picked up a used console Megashifter. I also got a line lock solenoid and T-handle with momentary switch.

I plan on getting a new set of slicks for the '57 (Hoosier Quicktime Pro DOT), and mount the old ones on some rims to put on the Camaro. The plan is for me to run the '57 and my son the Camaro.

Well, I've ordered & received the new cam, lifters & timing set, and the SFI-approved damper for the 396. Also a line lock solenoid and T-handle w/momentary for the Megashifter in the Camaro.

Now I need to get the cam to a machine shop to get the groove machined in the rear journal ('65-'66-only thing), and stay in town long enough to get some of this work done!

Only thing I've managed is to get the cam groove machined. Haven't even drained the radiator yet.

Too much business travel. Hope to get started on it Friday & this weekend.

Progress report:

The cam is in the 396, valves adjusted. I spent about 3 hours installing the intake manifold Saturday; between cleaning the gasket surfaces and bolt holes, and finding bolts long enough to engage the remaining threads (Hint: If you replace BBC intake mount bolts, don't use the packaged kits - get 1-1/2" bolts and thick washers). My next hurdle was getting the new SFI harmonic damper installed - it's stressing the limits of my install tool. So far I've installed until the tool starts ticking, removed, cleaned, relubed, reinstalled until the tool starts ticking, etc., 4 times. Seems to be an extreeeeemely tight fit.

Saturday afternoon my son & daughter were going to a movie. Before they left, my son asked me, "Dad, are you going to need to drive the Camaro anywhere tomorrow?" No, no plans, why? "Well, I thought we could start putting the new shifter in after we get back from the movie." So, he spent about 3 hours on that Saturday, with assistance from me from time to time, got it far enough Sunday evening to be able to drive it. It's a used shifter, didn't come with everything a new one would, so some parts chasing and modifications were in order (Hint #2 - if you get an aftermarket shifter, either make sure it has everything included, or get a new one). Still need to mount the indicator plate & boot. I think we're going to adjust the mounting position slightly to relieve some strain on the stock shifter cable and put the T-handle in a little more comfortable position.

Won a pair of 15x8 wheels for new slicks for the '57 on eBay yesterday. Nothing fancy, just Rally(sp?) rims which will be painted to match the fronts.

five7kid
03-31-2006, 07:12 PM
About all I've managed is the Megashifter mounting adjustment and painting the rims & getting the new 27x10.50x15 Hoosier Quicktime Pro DOT's mounted.

Spent two weeks out of town in March, still haven't done the income taxes. . .

And, picked up more project material - "new" disc rear for the Camaro. Needs the brakes gone through, new park cables, tubes welded, sand blasted, painted, new combo valve, installed. Still need to get the line lock installed, too.

Does it ever end?

five7kid

I managed to spend a couple of hours on the '57 last night. What's left is to reinstall the radiator, bolt down the valve covers, attach the throttle linkage, add oil & coolant and prime the carb, and it should be ready for the cam break-in.

The Camaro still needs the line lock installed and slicks mounted to rims. Probably won't get the disc rear in before the season starts.
