Well, now it makes sense why there's no new Firebird... the GTO will be Pontiac's war horse for the Zeta Platform, At least at first. So far, drive train looks the same as the 07 GTOs, with the 400HP 6.0 LS2, but with far more agressive styling, and sharper handling. I haven't seen any real pics of it yet, but there are some concepts out there... some look ghastly, to be fair, but its good news anyway... glad to hear that Pontiac isn't turning into GM's new entry level badge any faster then Chevy is turning into their performance badge!

And

Granted, neither confirmed anything for 100% (The article I first read this on has since dropped off the internet) but its pretty clear I think.... According to Putz... I mean, Lutz, Pontiac is getting to make a performance coupe, just not a Camaro sibling.

All of the various blogs and bits I have seen suggest that Pontiac is basically under review. They have halted all further development of the zeta chassis, killed off the G8 ST, and killed the alpha chassis, which was a joint GM/Holden venture. This, apparently, was quoted from Bob Lutz.

I don't see them developing anything in the Pontiac line up for a while, if they manage to stay viable as brand within GM, as they are today. Sadly, it seems that our only choice for a real RWD sports car of American design will be Corvette. Corvette has the same problems as the current Pontiac lineup, nice rides to be sure, they are just too damn expensive, (G8 and C6) for the average buyer in this economy. I know a lot of Corvette owners here in DFW, but no one, no one, is buying new. I don't know anyone with a G8 either. On a more positive note, the G6 and G5 seem to moving here anyway. I have seen several G6s with dealer tags recently.

It does stink... But I really like how the designs for it hold the old-school looks. Like the lights.

Getting rid of GMC? I hadn't heard that one yet. You forgot to include Saab in your list as well...

So it's going to be Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac? Not that it matters, I am not going to buy any GM vehicle as long as they are owned by the gov't.

I don't see them dumping GMC - they generate a lot of truck revenues around here. By the same token, I didn't think they would kill off Pontiac a year ago either....

I think they are likely to cut back on GMC, but not cut it back altogether. They sell alot of trucks to construction companies and gov't organizations, etc. People buy them out of necessity, so I think it will stick.
