The engine is called an L98.....347 cubic inch...this is the one leading up to the LT1....My friend has a '84 4dr VOLVO with a L98 in it...headers and a cam= about 290-300 hp..approx same torque....good engines  , although 1 step behind the LT1, and miles behind the LS1, LS2, LS6....[which are obviously in a league of their own].

Well, a '91 Z28 could also have a LB9, which is a 305. Two versions were made, one with 205 net horsepower, 285 lb-ft torque; the other 230 net horsepower, 300 lb-ft torque.
The '91 L98 was rated at 245 net horsepower, 345 lb-ft torque. For the record, it was a 4" bore by 3.48" stroke, which if you do the math comes out to 3.49.8 cubic inches. Typically rounded off to 350.
All of these were first generation series small block Chevys. All had Tuned Port Injection, or TPI.
That's assuming it is a Z28.
The LT1 and LT4 are considered 2nd generation SBC. LS1/2/6, 3rd generation.

Actually its a 350. LT1 is 350 as well, as both share the same basic block architecture as the original 1955 Small Block. The LS1 is 346ci and an all new totally different design.

If it's the L98, it will be a TPI inducted motor as well. They pull hard up to 4,250 rpms, then fall on their face because of the design.

The L98 is a true 350ci(as true as any of the rest anyway). Its a Gen 1 350. The LS1 is the 346ci engine. Ditch the TPI and you essentially have an old school Gen 1 350. :D
