I just got my hands on a 350 its not the best thing on the planet, it came out of a 3/4 ton truck, block casting 10054727, non roller, 2 bolt main, 1 pc real main seal. heads are 14102191 high swirl port. I spent the day taking it apart, its got the LD pistons, non dish ones, (this mean higher compression ratio?) I want to make it into a nice street motor, 97% chance that it will never see the track. Im looking to make 300hp 300tq with the stock bottom end. The stock heads are going to be replaced with a set of vortecs, a little more lumpier cam, and convert to carb, I also have a set of headman longtube headers for it. Will post pics soon.

Welcome aboard.

Sounds like a decent project. Not sure what you mean by "LD" pistons. Most truck engines had some sort of dish to them. Some of those blocks were used for roller lifters, even if the trucks didn't get them. Not sure if your block is in that category, though.

Have you decided on a source for the Vortec heads? This is a pretty good deal http://www.sdparts.com/product/SD8060RAAG/UpgradedVortecHeadKitRollerEdelbrockPerformerRPMAi rGap.aspx .

What is this going into, the '66?

the pistons have the 4 valve reliefs cut into them, rather then the dish type but yes the motor is going into the 66 belair. Thanks for the link.

No dish at all? Truck pistons of that era tended to have a slight dish and valve reliefs. If they are absolutely flat with valve reliefs, they are replacement pistons.

Even with a mild cam and stock bottom end, you'll make over 300 HP easy with the head and manifold package above. Pick an Edelbrock Performer RPM cam with that setup and you'll make more like 350-370 depending on what comp ratio you're actually running. The last 350 I had in my Nova had the RPM cam and intake with a set of Camel hump heads (the vortec's are better) and a weak-sauce 8.9 to 1 compression ratio and still made 330 HP. You won't be disappointed with that setup, trust me on that.

It does have a dish I understand now what your saying, they also came with I belive a completely dished piston that had no vlave relief cuts in them, they were the lower compression version, atleast from what I can remember.

I was just out in the garage yesterday and noticed the pistons I had in the 330 HP motor were very slightly dished (hardly, but it was there) and 4 valve reliefs. If I rebuild that motor, those pistons will bite the dust, but if you want to use yours, you should still be able to hit over 300 HP easy.
