So I know these Vettes were made back in the day with different types of fuel, so is it safe to run a 365hp 327 on today's 93 pump gas? The motor as far as I know has an original cam and all that, but will have a Performer RPM Air Gap intake and Holley 750cfm Street Avenger more than likely as the current owner of the engine has it in an old C10 with the stock truck 2 barrel intake and carb on it.

What year vette is it? I know on my dads 63 Vette 327 340 hp he has to run a lead substitute. Then again the car is all factory.

Not sure what year the car is from, right now it's in a 1970 C10 with the trucks 2 barrel intake and carb on it. When we pull it out of the woods and away from the thorny bushes, I'll get the #s and all that. Just was reading up on them and apparently they're 11:1 compression, so I don't know if the stock cam is too much for 93 octane or if I'd have to change it to a different, more pump gas friendly cam and do some adjustments or whatever.

remember, turbo/sc vehicles run with an obscene amount of 'compression', 11:1 is nothing compared to the detonation you have to deal with runing more than 10lbs of boost.. and these guys run pump gas.. it's all in how it's set up

of coruse you can definitely run high compression on pump gas if it's set up properly to deal with the fact that octane is a half-assed substitute for lead

if it's been driven successfully in the last few decades, it should certainly have already been tweaked up for modern fuels.. all you gotta do is fix up the a/f and run it a bit rich (usually just swap jets) and timing dealt with appropriately, etc, and you're usually ok, afaik

The cams from 40-45 years ago did not handle compression well. Modern grinds are much better with it. Ditto cylinder heads of yore.

Exhaust valve & seats were protected by the lead in the gasoline back in those days. Hardened valves and seats are a good idea to keep the engine alive.

Hi Matt, your engine is from a 64-65 (Possibly 63) Vette. This was the same engine as the Fuel injected cars, with the exception that the FI was replaced by a Holly 4 barrel. Spec. 11:00 comp. Solid lifter cam. This was the "HOT SET UP" as you had all the performance of the FI cars and none of the tuning issues of the FI. My buddy in high school had one and the fastest I have ever gone on land was in that Vette. 148mph indicated with the top down. You have a RARE find there, If it is in good shape you may want to advertise it and find a Vette owner who needs it for a restoration. Took me 3 yrs to find a 427 for my vette. If you decide to put it in a project car, Contact Crower Cams and tell them you want a good cam for todays needs. My Crower performs great, no problems. As far as todays gas, if it has been in a pickup for many years any damage that would happen has already been done. Go through it and upgrade it to todays standards and drive it for a couple hundred thousand more miles. Good luck.:thumbsup:
