y-pipe question

Got my y-pipe in so its time to get this junk on my car. One question is what connects the y-pipe to the I pipe? Should i have an extra piece of pipe? or will the y connect to the I?

The I should slip into the Y. Then clamp them together. I'm partial to band clamps.
