I'm about to purchase a 97 trans am cars $1200 and dont want to spend more than $6000. Cars in good shape but the main bearings bad. It will be strictly a race car. My goal is to reach the 11's but my family and I dont have the experience to work on a LT1, and the computers and such that are involved. I plan on putting a carb. small block chevy motor in it. The car will have nitrous but dont plan to use it much. SO i want the car to run 11's without any additives. Does anyone have any opinions on this know of a motor for my goal or have any other ideas?

Rebuild the LT1 and put a carb on it.

I'd keep the LT1 as an LT1. 11's with an LT1 isn't that hard. With nitrous, a piece of cake.

While you're fixing the bearing, put in forged pistons and gap the rings for nitrous.

Programming an LT1 PCM is a lot easier and a lot less expensive than converting to carb, or installing a carb'd Gen I.

FI and carb is pretty much the same just a different way to regulate the a/f ratio and if my public school ass can figure it out so can you.

But a 400 sbc would go right in the hole and a TH400 would also fit .

Hardly. They are completely different ways of mixing fuel into the air.

Time for you to get some more schooling.

Time for you to get some more schooling. Yes they are different but what I was saying is that its all about A/F ratio and there is nothing MAGICAL about FI , its still an engine that runs on gas not a space ship.

My original point was it would be cheaper to realize the stated goal with the LT1 system and engine he has vs. converting to carb.

Sequential port injection has A/F control advantages that carb will never approach. Most of those advantages disappear at WOT, but most engines/cars aren't operated at WOT for the majority of their use. Even a race car.

My car runs 11's with nos. 326 rwhp off nos, 450 on nos. Cam, exhaust, roller rockers , headers, 373 gears, clutch kit and 150 nos. A few free mods like throttle body descreen and a k&n filter etc.
