I have a set of 69' sbc heads with the rubber/teflon seals over the guides. I did not install the "O"ring ones that fit over the valve stem.( I was told useing both types of seals at the same time would not allow adequate lubrication.) At Max. lift the retainer touches the seal. It looks like the guides are not machined to accept these seals. Can I take these out and use only the "O"rings on the valve stem? What would you guys recomend? Thanks in advance.

Not at all,
With just the o-ring, you will have plenty of lubrication...in fact wayyy to much and burn oil. I would either machine the heads, or see if you can find a lower profile seal for the heads. Do you know the guide o.d.?

Thanks for the replies. I have had the heads machined to accept the seals. My question now is should I also install the "O" rings on the valve stem or would both types of seals on one valve prevent proper lubrication of the guides? Thanks again.
