It's the little stuff that kills you :) Figure on about $6,500 by the time everything's done. Happy to send you a spread with all the P/N's, etc. to help you plan.

6500 where did u get that figure from?

i just got my invoice on my stuff $980, if i would have done all stock it would have been like $680

Did you install a stock.....or aftermarket cam?

Did you have your heads ported and go with a performance valvetrain

Did you get headers to help your higher performing engine breath?

Did you install an aftermarket cat-back to.......see above ......

Did you get a higher stall converter.......gears?????

Did you get the PCM retuned?

When you 'rebuild' your engine and go 'higher performance', it takes several thousand dollars to properly build and support the 'system'.

$6500 seems like a good guesstimate to me..... Maybe a tad high, but still pretty close.

with my headers, offroad y pipe, my car came with a magnaflow catback so i wont add that,a comp cams cc503, i got comp cams spings retainers and keepers, reused the stock pushrods, got new hyperuethectic(spelling?) pistons, new roller lifters, all new bearings, seals, and gasket, oil pump, having the crank ground .010 under, a new oil pump drive, pcv grommet, oil pump shaft, and a new water pump drive and bearing

the heads were ported and polished by my friend

grand total of $1642

tuning im guessing will be in the area of 300 to 400 hopefully...

Clean/mag/test block?
Check main bore alignment and align hone if req'd?
Bore and hone with torque plate?
Overhauling/resizing rods w/new bolts?
Press pistons (unless floating)?
Balance (since new pistons will be lighter)?
New main bolts/studs?
New water pump?
New opti?

Interested in what you're including in your rebuild/overhaul; that likely reflects some of the difference in price.

Sent. As noted this was for a 383 and I included everything...so you can do it for less. I got your email from your board profile - you might want to delete the posting with your email address as web crawlers find those and beat you to death with spam :/

If there was interest, I think coming up with a good set of P/Ns in a post for overhaul might be good for the group - thoughts?

Excellent idea, maybe one for all "stock" and then one for aftermarket parts.

the engine was hot tanked to times once when first taken apart then again after i honed it, after that it got a coat of black engine paint

nothing catastrophic happened to the engine so i did not see a need to magnaflux the engine block

all main bores were checked almost no wear was shown but i still honed every cylinder

rods were fine i could still see the original pattern from when the rods were first machined

they were press pistons and i used a rod heater and pushed them in the connecting rods

i balanced all the rods to withing 1 gram of the lightest rod

the main bolts were reused

water pump was replaced about 500 miles ago when i did the head gaskets if you wanted me to include that in the price of the rebuild it was about 80 bucks, also i replaced the serpentine belt, plug wires, and plugs which all together about 200 bucks with the water pump

the opti got a new cap and rotor and thats all

Shak180, thanks for posting what you're including - we have different definitions of rebuild/overhaul, so our prices are different. Nothing negative; just a different approach.

One nice thing about these fuel-injected engines is the low bore wear even after high milage.

That's right in the ballpark with my LT4 build, including a fully forged 383 shortblock ~ The devil is in the details with the supporting mods costing as much as the motor itself.:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
Are we having fun yet???
