ARP STUDSmy1994z28 05-06-2008, 07:17 PM I am installing arp main studs in my block, according to arp, only tighten studs in block hand tight?anyone else using arp studs?if so what did you do? CKJ 05-06-2008, 09:41 PM Ed Zachary...Hand tight in block and then torque as necessary. It torques from both top and bottom from rather just the top down. billla 05-06-2008, 11:14 PM I've used ARP studs thousands of times - yes, they're only finger tight in the block. Since it's right in the ARP sheet that came with the studs, why would you question? :) my1994z28 05-07-2008, 04:53 AM im just a little nervous, first time using studs...i have alot of money invested in this engine... billla 05-07-2008, 08:07 AM I was just poking a bit - I hear you :) Finger tight seems wrong somehow, I know. CKJ 05-07-2008, 08:48 PM I mean...even if you just tighten the studs in the block like torque specs, and tighten the nuts on w/ some arp assembly moly lube then if the studs dont' turn anymore it'll just be like using head bolts. ShowNoMercy 05-07-2008, 08:50 PM Throw a 4inch pipe wrench on the studs and tighten em up. :P billla 05-07-2008, 09:32 PM Throw a 4inch pipe wrench on the studs and tighten em up. :P *chuckle* The prop nut on my airplane requires *280 lbs-ft*; I have a calibrated "breaker bar" to tighten it :) CKJ 05-07-2008, 09:40 PM 2 words Bill... torque multiplier, those things are nice...yet very expensive. I forgot how much ft lbs. the caps on hydraulic cylinders take, but usually its torqued w/ a 3 ft pipe wrench and gentle pressure from an excavator while being held w/ another one on that ones tracks  | |
