I have a 96 LT1/T56, that I would like to hang onto for another project, but I want to make sure it will be in good condition for that install. Any ideas on long term storage? The drive train is out of the car, indoors.

keep it indoors (protect from water i.e. corrosion and harsh elements) and protected from rodents, that really the biggest issue. IMOP since you have drive train out already.
maybe give it a good wax job so when you clean it to start working on it it cleans a lil easier.
cover all holes on car engine and tranny.
oh if your gonna keep the motor pull your plugs and put some oil in the cylinders to help keep the rings from sticking to the walls and help keep moistoir out

I am not sure whether you can do it on car engines, I would assume you could, but if you can run the motor, get some fogging oil and either spray into the intake while its running or spray some into the fuel filter. And also maybe run some marvel mystery oil with your regular oil change.
